Liam Hemsworth Biography
Liam Hemsworth is a popular Australian actor who truly made it big in Hollywood. While his brother Chris Hemsworth is significantly more famous than Liam, he's never leveraged that celebrity for his own gain. He achieved worldwide fame through his role in the blockbuster "The Hunger Games" franchise. In 2022, he replaced Henry Cavill in the series "The Witcher."
Childhood and Family
Liam, the youngest of three Hemsworth brothers, was born in Melbourne on January 13, 1990. His mom Leonie was a high school English teacher, while his dad Craig worked in social services. Brother Luke was ten years older than Liam, and middle son Chris had a six-and-a-half-year head start.
Early Roles
Liam Hemsworth kicked off his professional acting career at 16. By then he already had an agent – one he "borrowed" from Chris. The youngest Hemsworth appeared in soap operas "Home and Away" and "McLeod's Daughters," followed by a stint on "Neighbours" where his character Josh Taylor stuck around for 25 episodes.
Career Peak
But Liam didn't envy his brother – instead, he kept hitting the audition circuit. Eventually, his look caught the eye of "The Hunger Games" franchise producers, and Hemsworth landed the role of Gale Hawthorne, childhood friend of Katniss Everdeen, played by Jennifer Lawrence.
That same year, he scored the lead in romantic drama "Love and Honor" opposite young Australian actress Teresa Palmer. Then came action thriller "Empire State," where Liam Hemsworth was once again top-billed.
In 2013, Liam acted alongside Hollywood heavyweights – Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford – in psychological thriller "Paranoia." He transformed into a typical office drone destined to become a pawn in a game between two media moguls.
In 2018, Liam appeared in just one project – the short film "Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home," which also featured his brother Chris, Luke Bracey, Russell Crowe, and Isla Fisher. Then in 2019 came comedy "Isn't It Romantic," where Liam's co-stars were Priyanka Chopra and Rebel Wilson.
In 2020, Liam appeared in the first season of "Most Dangerous Game," starring alongside Christoph Waltz. It follows former athlete and bankrupt developer Dodge Tynes, who learns he has an inoperable brain tumor and agrees to participate in a deadly game.
The series turned out to be a pretty mixed experiment. It originally launched on Quibi, and when that platform shut down in spring 2021, the show moved to The Roku Channel. Later, Amazon Prime Video stitched all the episodes together into a two-hour feature. While viewers gave the series a lukewarm reception, they rated the feature-length version much higher.

While making action films, Liam didn't forget about more emotional genres. In October 2024, the romantic drama "Lonely Planet" dropped on Netflix, where he starred opposite Laura Dern. They shot it back in 2022 in Morocco, but the release got delayed. Dern played writer Katherine, who arrives at a secluded writers' retreat, while Liam played young financier Owen, who's out of place among the intellectual elite.
Liam Hemsworth's Personal Life
Liam's first girlfriend was Australian Laura Griffin, but their relationship couldn't handle the distance. They broke up shortly after Liam moved to Hollywood.
Miley Cyrus
In June 2009, the actor started a serious relationship with his "The Last Song" co-star Miley Cyrus. "When filming began, I couldn't understand why journalists with cameras were constantly swarming Miley's trailer, and when she'd leave her dressing room, everyone would literally go crazy. That's when I thought she must be one special girl," Liam recalled about first meeting Miley.
Liam had the beginning of the phrase "If he fails, at least fails while daring greatly" tattooed on his arm, while Miley inked the continuation on her forearm: "So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."
In early 2023, Liam got another reminder that ten years together don't just disappear. On his birthday—of all days—Miley Cyrus dropped "Flowers," a song about their relationship. The music video went viral, after which Hemsworth sued his ex-wife for defamation, claiming the song caused irreparable damage to his career.I was running six miles a day, which I'd never done in my life before. For six months I was working on getting my mental health back, and physical exercise helped me get rid of the bad thoughts.
Gabriella Brooks
In December 2019, Liam was first spotted with Australian model Gabriella Brooks. The couple deliberately kept their relationship out of the public eye, but fun details occasionally surfaced. In November 2020, Chris Hemsworth posted a photo from brother Luke's 40th birthday, and Gabriella was there at the family celebration. In June 2021, the couple made their first public appearance at the Gold Dinner charity event in Sydney alongside Chris and his wife Elsa Pataky. Gabriella told Stellar magazine at the time that her personal relationships are "very, very important and sacred," and in an industry where so much is on display, she wanted to keep something just for herself.

On September 12, 2025, Liam and Gabriella posted a black-and-white photo: the model embracing the actor around his neck, showing off a diamond ring. The caption was simple – just a white heart emoji. A month and a half later on the TODAY show, Liam said he was "incredibly excited" about the upcoming wedding. He shared that he'd been waiting for "the right moment" to propose.

Liam Hemsworth Now
On October 30, 2025, the fourth season of "The Witcher" premiered, introducing the world to a new Geralt. The show's creators came up with an original explanation for the actor swap: at the start of the first episode, narrator Stribog retells century-old legends about Geralt, and in these retellings, Geralt looks like Liam. The decision proved divisive – some appreciated the creativity, while others saw it as an attempt to rewrite history.
