Childhood

Justin was born on January 31, 1981, in Tennessee to a deeply religious and incredibly musical family. His hometown of Memphis was where Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis launched their legendary careers. Justin's father, Randall Timberlake, played guitar in a band and led the choir at their Baptist church on weekends and holidays. His grandfather was also an excellent guitarist and even befriended Elvis Presley in his youth.

Justin's parents married young and divorced when he wasn't even five years old. His mother soon remarried, and his father also started a new family with two more sons. Justin's parents stayed on good terms, so he never felt neglected and got along great with his stepbrothers.

Justin's musical talents showed up early in childhood. His grandfather taught Justin to play the guitar, and his father often took him to his concerts. From early on, Michael Jackson was his idol, and whenever he heard any of Jackson's songs, young Justin would start dancing and mimicking the pop king's famous "moonwalk."

So it's no surprise that at 12, Justin landed on TV—first on StarSearch ("In Search of a Star"), performing country songs, then on the kids' show "The Mickey Mouse Club." There he met Britney Spears, who'd become his girlfriend years later, and JC Chasez, his future *NSYNC bandmate.

N'Sync

Justin was invited to join the band N'Sync when he was just sixteen years old. Despite his mother's concerns, he managed to balance performing with the group, school, and acting classes.

The success of his debut album "Justified," released that same year, blew past all of Justin's expectations, proving to fans that their idol had developed his own distinctive sound. His second album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds," released in 2006, absolutely crushed his debut's success – R&B was hitting its peak popularity at the time, largely thanks to Justin's influence. For this album, Timberlake teamed up with powerhouse songwriter, rapper, and producer Timbaland, whose influence shaped every track on the record.

With multiple Grammys, 10 million album sales, and a music video starring Scarlett Johansson, Justin could've easily called this the biggest year of his career. But after a brief hiatus and collaborations with Beyonce, Madonna, and Lonely Island, Timberlake dropped his most ambitious album in 2013 – "The 20/20 Experience."

This record stands apart in his catalog thanks to a dramatic shift in musical direction – packed with sprawling, contemplative neo-soul compositions and bold sonic experiments. Timberlake recorded the single "Suit & Tie" with Jay-Z, and the music video for this track was directed by none other than David Fincher (director of "Fight Club" and "The Social Network").
