Five bodies have been recovered from the sunken yacht of British tech magnate Mike Lynch off the coast of Sicily.

Divers examining the wreckage of the superyacht Bayesian, which sank off the coast of Sicily, found the bodies of five passengers and are searching for another.

Rescuers described the operation as "challenging" because divers were limited to 12 minutes, the yacht sank at a depth of 50 meters, and access to the cabins was difficult due to debris.

Preliminary reports suggest a waterspout pulled the vessel under. The damage was localized: a nearby sailing yacht remained almost unscathed.

Lynch’s 57-year-old wife, Angela Bacares, managed to escape. She said they woke up at four in the morning when the yacht began to sink:
I woke up around 4 AM because the boat was tilting heavily. At first, we were not worried, but then there was a powerful impact, the yacht's windows shattered, and chaos ensued.
Fourteen other passengers managed to escape by boarding a lifeboat.
