Lucas Planned to Make Three Star Wars Films About Darth Maul

As we know, Lucasfilm was bought by Disney, which then created its own Star Wars trilogy, but things could have turned out very differently.

As Comic Book reports, George Lucas envisioned that with Emperor Palpatine's death, the galaxy would plunge into chaos, and the main antagonist from the first episode, Darth Maul, would emerge from oblivion alongside his apprentice Darth Talon.

The filmmaker himself once shared these details. In this new trilogy, Darth Maul wouldn't just be your typical assassin with killer lightsaber skills. He'd transform into a full-blown crime lord and "galactic mafia godfather." The lower-body-missing Maul would get cybernetic spider-like legs to boot. Darth Talon, who once appeared in the Star Wars comics, would play the same role beside this new villain that Darth Vader once played beside Palpatine.

The zoomboola.com editorial team reminds readers that in the first episode of the space saga, Darth Maul died at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Jedi sliced the villain in half, and he plummeted into a bottomless chasm. Nevertheless, scenarios involving his return were explored in Star Wars books and comics. It would've been fascinating to see what Lucas ultimately created. But history doesn't deal in hypotheticals, so instead we got the awful Disney episodes 7, 8, and 9 of the space saga - toothless and completely derivative.
