Bella Ramsey Lands Lead Role in "Maya" Series

The star of "The Last of Us" and "Game of Thrones" will this time play a teenage girl who moves with her mother from London to a small Scottish town.

According to Deadline, Ramsey's mother will be played by actress Daisy Haggard ("Back to Life"), who's also directing the show. The plot follows a mother and daughter being hunted by two killers as they relocate under a witness protection program.

The series will run for just six episodes. It's expected to be an "atmospheric and darkly comic" thriller. Filming is set to begin this year, with the full cast to be announced later.

"This story and these characters that Daisy has created are so alive, nuanced, hilariously funny and frighteningly dark," said about the series.

The zoomboola.com editorial team reminds readers: Ramsey previously faced real harassment on social media. She was hit with criticism from people upset that she landed one of the lead roles in "The Last of Us." The complaints focused on Bella's appearance, which looked nothing like the character from the video game. Because of the hate directed at her, she stepped away from social media. Personally, I think it'll be interesting to see Bella in this kind of role, and in this new territory she definitely won't ruffle anyone's feathers.
