In 2021, the drama "The Tender Bar" directed by George Clooney was released on Amazon Prime Video. The plot follows a boy searching for a father figure among the patrons of a bar owned by his Uncle Charlie, played pro bono by Ben Affleck, who was impressed by the screenplay. In 2022, he and Julia Roberts played divorced spouses in Ol Parker's comedy "Ticket to Paradise", and in December 2023, the premiere of Clooney's new directorial work "The Boys in the Boat", a biographical drama about a team of rowers from the University of Washington participating in the 1936 Olympics, took place.I have an Uncle George, who I was named after. I grew up in a small town in Kentucky. My uncle lived near a bar that bears some resemblance to the one we filmed in our movie, albeit much less safe. This bar had a jukebox and a cigarette machine. So, I'd go into this bar for cigarettes and would spend some time there, especially in the summer. I worked at the racetrack with my uncle, and I was about the same age as our main character then. The music that played there, and all the details of that bar, have been etched in my soul. I still remember them.
