The new Spider-Man will feature a villain that bullets can't stop. Who is Tombstone and what are his abilities?

In the film "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," Tombstone will appear on screen. The role will be played by rapper and actor Marvin Jones III — the same person who already voiced the character in the "Spider-Verse" animated universe.

For comic fans, this is almost a cult moment: Tombstone rarely made it to the screen, but in the comics he's a true nightmare of New York City.

Who is Tombstone

Tombstone (real name Lonnie Thompson Lincoln) appeared in Marvel comics in 1988 and quickly became one of Spider-Man's darkest enemies.

According to the "Villains Fandom", his story begins in Harlem: he was the only African-American albino in school, and his peers constantly bullied him. Taller and stronger than other kids, Lonnie learned early to fight back and became a street thug.

Already as a teenager, he was extorting money for "protection," and his school friend Robbie Robertson (future editor of the Daily Bugle) once wanted to write an exposé about him, but Lonnie managed to intimidate him.

Over time, he went into crime, becoming a hired assassin. To look even scarier, he filed his teeth and nails, getting an almost vampiric appearance.

Lonnie worked for Kingpin, did dirty work for the mob, and earned the nickname Tombstone. His whispered voice, white skin, and cold demeanor made him a figure whose mere presence struck primal fear into enemies.

An accident changed his fate: during one of the fights, he ended up in a chamber with experimental gas at an Osborn chemical plant. The substance caused a mutation — Lonnie's skin became virtually invulnerable, his muscles gained superhuman strength, and his endurance exceeded normal human limits. After that, even large-caliber bullets couldn't penetrate him. Combined with street fighting experience and a ruthless character, this made Tombstone one of New York's most dangerous criminals.

Now Peter will once again face an enemy from New York's streets. This kind of villain brings us back to the hero's street-level roots: dirty alleys, criminal clans, blood and sweat without cosmic rays and portals. His "street style" could be a great contrast against superhero blockbusters.

Plus, Tombstone will also appear in the animated film "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse". So fans will get a double dose of the villain for the first time: animated and live-action.
