Mia Gypsy Mello da Silva Goth was born in the London borough of Southwark in November 1993. When Mia was still a child, the family moved to Brazil, her mother's homeland, where her grandparents lived: American artist and musician Lee Jaffe and Brazilian actress Maria Gladys.

Mia spent the first five years of her life in Rio, living with her maternal grandparents. It was her grandmother who first introduced her to the world of cinema, often taking her to film sets. It was at that moment that the girl realized she wanted to become an actress.

Later, Mia and her parents moved to Canada, her father's homeland, where the family lived on a farm for a while. Before 12-year-old Mia and her family finally settled in London, she attended seven different schools.
I knew I wouldn't stay anywhere for long, so I started experimenting with my 'character' to fit in. I changed my behavior and embellished facts about my life. Mia's first appearance in cinema was in Lars von Trier's controversial erotic drama "Nymphomaniac" (2013). In the "The Gun" chapter, Goth played P, a 15-year-old daughter of criminals – a lonely and vulnerable girl who quickly becomes attached to the main character Joe (actress Charlotte Gainsbourg). "I was 18, and this film changed my life. Trier showed me the direction. I am still grateful to him," Mia recalls.
