Lucasfilm Shows Gosling in "Starfighter" — and Announces Cast

In the first shot of the upcoming blockbuster, Ryan Gosling sits on the hood of a futuristic wheelless vehicle alongside young Flynn Gray ("Wednesday"). The craft bears a striking resemblance to Luke Skywalker's landspeeder from the original trilogy.

The photo was published on the Star Wars website, where Lucasfilm also officially confirmed the cast and release date — May 28, 2027.

Plot and Timeline

"Star Wars: Starfighter" will be a standalone story, not directly connected to the Skywalker saga. Events will unfold five years after "The Rise of Skywalker" (2019).

Who's Behind the Project

Shawn Levy is directing — the filmmaker behind "Deadpool & Wolverine" and "Stranger Things". He admitted: "It's an honor for me to create a new story with such a team."
This experience has been the fulfillment of a dream, both creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my understanding of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this galaxy of storytelling with such brilliant collaborators on screen and beyond has been an unforgettable experience

Gosling, on top of everything else, isn't just playing the lead role — he's also producing.

Why This Matters for the Franchise It's been six years since "The Rise of Skywalker" hit theaters. Fans have been waiting for Star Wars to return to the big screen — and now Disney and Lucasfilm are preparing two major projects: "The Mandalorian & Grogu" arrives summer 2026, while "Star Wars: Starfighter" becomes the big May 2027 premiere.

"Star Wars: Starfighter" promises to be for Star Wars what "Blade Runner 2049" was for cyberpunk — fresh air for a classic universe. Earlier, we at zoomboola.com reported that the action-comedy "Tough Guys" with Gosling in the lead role is in development.
