Her Childhood and Family
Amy grew up as the daughter of US Army soldier Richard Adams and housewife Kathryn Adams. She was born on August 20, 1974, and was the middle child among their seven children, with four brothers and two sisters. She was born in Vicenza, Italy, where her father was stationed at a military base. The family moved frequently before finally settling in Castle Rock, Colorado, in 1982.
Money was tight for their large family, but that didn't stop them from having fun together. The Adams family would go hiking, ride bikes, and put on performances together. A script was usually written by their father and rarely by their mother. These home theater productions were little Amy's favorite activity, and she usually landed the lead roles. At the same time, she was a feisty kid who often got into scraps with her siblings. Some of the actress's most vivid memories are tied to her father's performances: sitting at a table, sipping a non-alcoholic Shirley Temple while listening to him sing.

Finding Herself
In high school, Amy had little interest in science, but she was the first person in everything that concerned art and sport: she sang in the school choir, took ballet and did gymnastics. Intending to become a professional dancer, she trained at the David Taylor Dance Company.

In 1994, she began her professional career as a dancer in dinner theater (a theater-restaurant with a light repertoire of musicals and comedies) in Boulder. Amy loved to sing and dance, but the owners required her to wait tables. One day a colleague lied to the owner, claiming Amy had gossiped about the director. She lost that job but found a similar one at a Denver dinner theater.

Her First Roles in the Movies
While working in Minneapolis, Amy acted in her first movie. It was a black-and-white short satire «The Chromium Hook». Next, she played a cheerleader in the dark comedy «Drop Dead Gorgeous» alongside Kirsten Dunst and Kirstie Alley. Alley encouraged the young actress. Inspired by her experienced colleague's encouragement, Amy moved to Hollywood in January 1999.

The Prosperity of Her Career
Amy Adams' long-awaited breakthrough finally came in 2005 when she landed a key role in Phil Morrison's low-budget indie drama «Junebug». She played Ashley, a pregnant optimist living with her husband's parents. As family tensions rise, she believes having a baby will fix everything.

Following her undeniable string of hits, Amy landed incredible opportunities. In 2007, she played a Congressman's assistant in the political tragicomedy «Charlie Wilson's War» with Tom Hanks in the lead role. Critics weren't impressed with the film. They felt Amy Adams was «wasting her talent in a role of minimal importance.» Critics called her next role in the romantic comedy «Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day» «a remarkable repetition of the magic from «Enchanted.»

. Then she starred in the drama «Doubt» with Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. For her role as a nun at a Catholic school caught between a strict principal and a priest suspected of pedophilia, Amy Adams earned Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations. Many critics noted that after «Junebug,» her career hit a new milestone – she was often cast as the ingenue – innocent girls full of optimism and hope. «Naivety is not stupidity, and innocent people are often very complex,» – Amy says
