Karoline Claire Leavitt is an American politician, a Republican, and the youngest White House Press Secretary in U.S. history, serving as the spokesperson for Donald Trump during his second presidential term. She was 27 years old when she took office.
Childhood and Youth
Karoline was born on August 24, 1997, in Atkinson, New Hampshire. Her parents, Bob and Erin Leavitt, were business owners: they ran an ice cream shop and a dealership selling used trucks. They were also Catholics, which greatly influenced the lives of Karoline and her brothers, Joe and Mike.Karoline was enrolled in a Catholic school in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She later attended Saint Anselm College. Considering the college was also Catholic, studying there reinforced her commitment to her faith. She saw family as the greatest value and considered abortion unacceptable.

The Path to Politics
Karoline's political preferences, like her passion for journalism, developed during her college years. While still in college, she called herself a supporter of Trump and wrote articles expressing her views on the correctness of decisions during his first presidential term, such as the ban on entry to the U.S. from several Muslim countries.She also discussed this topic in the radio club she founded, which operated within the campus.
During her studies, Karoline interned at Fox News and gained experience in the White House (in the correspondence department).
In 2019, Karoline earned a bachelor's degree in communications and political science.
Career
After graduating from college during Donald Trump's first term, Karoline Leavitt worked in the White House as an assistant press secretary, writing speeches for Trump. "Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator," Trump said in an interview with the BBC.When Biden took over the presidency from Trump in 2020, she took on the role of communications director for Republican representative Elise Stefanik in New York.
However, she found the communications role wasn't ambitious enough and decided to venture into larger-scale politics.
In 2022, the 25-year-old Leavitt ran for the House of Representatives as a Republican candidate in New Hampshire. She managed to secure the most votes, surpassing nine competitors. However, she couldn't win a seat in Congress as the incumbent Democratic senator Christopher Pappas defeated her in the general election.

Caroline Leavitt's Personal Life
Caroline is partnered with real estate mogul Nicholas Riccio. He is 32 years older than her. They met at a Republican political event.Nicholas has quite the backstory – he literally lived on the streets in his youth before attending Plymouth State University. He began his real estate career in the early 2000s.
Driving through Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, he spotted a run-down area and decided to invest in its redevelopment. By 2015, his company owned 15 properties and 70 apartments in the area. Today, he runs the successful Riccio Enterprises LLC.
Nicholas proposed to Caroline on Christmas 2023. On July 10, 2024, their son, Nicholas Jr., nicknamed Nico, was born. Somewhere between the proposal and birth, they tied the knot in a secret ceremony.
Nico arrived just three days before the assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump. The incident cut Caroline's maternity leave short, forcing her back to the Republican team.

Caroline Leavitt Now
On January 20, 2025, Caroline Leavitt assumed the role of White House Press Secretary, succeeding Karine Jean-Pierre.At her debut briefing – where she wore a Catholic cross necklace – she announced that press passes for nearly 500 journalists from the previous administration were being reinstated.
During the briefing, she claimed that "about $50 million in taxpayer dollars were spent purchasing condoms for Gaza residents." Donald Trump echoed her statement, but it turned out to be misinformation, as reported by Politifact, which fact-checks politicians' claims.
