Kate Beckinsale's biography
Kate Beckinsale, British actress who captivated audiences as the stunning Selene in Underworld and fearless Anna Valerious in Van Helsing, has repeatedly topped lists of the world's most beautiful women. The actress is considered the model of English refinement, and her filmography continues to grow with new projects, in which Kate embodies very different characters, preferring character roles. Her net worth is estimated to be around $20 million.
Tragic childhood
Kate Beckinsale was born and spent most of her life in London. Her mother, actress Judy Loe, appeared in melodramas and sitcoms but mostly in small roles. Her father, Richard Beckinsale, by contrast, starred in several hit comedy series of the '70s; the most notable of them was The Lovers (1970), Porridge (1974).
In March 1979, at the age of 31, Richard Beckinsale died suddenly of a heart attack, leaving his wife and daughter devastated and British showbiz reeling from the tragedy.

Kate later said: "The actors who knew him kept telling me how deeply they felt my dad's death. I even had to comfort them ... When you're three times taller than the person you're talking to, it's easy to assume she can't understand what's happening. But I knew exactly what had happened, and I was completely devastated." Judy did everything she could to comfort her daughter, but to Kate it felt like her whole world had collapsed.

At first, she absolutely hated her stepbrothers and stepsister, but as she grew older, she mellowed out. According to the actress, it felt like invaders had taken over her world. Kate especially disliked her stepbrothers, who gave the quarrelsome, haughty girl as good as she got.

Kate graduated from Godolphin and Latymer Private School in London. As a teenager, she twice won the prestigious contest for young writers in the UK. After a turbulent adolescence marked by bouts of anorexia and constant smoking (a habit the actress still hasn't kicked), Kate gradually entered the acting world. Artists, actors, and filmmakers were frequent visitors to their home. Judy and Roy were friends especially with Vanessa Redgrave and Ken Loach.
In 1991, Kate enrolled at Oxford to study French and Russian literature, and in the same year she appeared with small roles in the films Devices and Desires, in which Roy Marsden played, and One Against the Wind, where she starred as the daughter of Judy Davis character.
Early career
In 1994, the young actress left her studies behind, choosing cinema over academics. During her three years at Oxford, she appeared in Drama Society productions and starred in several films. Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing marked the beginning of Kate's film career. Her partner was Keanu Reeves; Michael Sheen also starred in the film.

In 1998, the actress performed Alice in the family fantasy film Alice Through the Looking Glass, earning critical acclaim from reviewers who praised this adaptation as the most faithful to Carroll's original and highlighted Beckinsale's stellar performance.

The best roles
Having already become a star of the British cinema, Kate gained worldwide recognition in 2001 after the release of the military drama Pearl Harbor, in which she performed Evelyn, caught in a love triangle between Capt. McCawley, performed by Ben Affleck and Capt. Walker performed by Josh Hartnett.

In the 2004 mystical thriller Van Helsing, she appeared as the beautiful Anna Valerious, a fearless vampire hunter partnered with Hugh Jackman. The film was recognized as one of the best in its genre.

According to Zoomboola.com, in 2012, the actress met Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel on the set of the thriller Total Recall, once again taking on her signature role as a female agent. And in the film Stonehearst Asylum Kate showed the gift of a dramatic actress, playing as a woman imprisoned in a psychiatric clinic. Her powerful performance stunned even the harshest critics, who noted that Beckinsale brought a haunting sense of menace to the film—the kind of psychological tension that leaves viewers on edge. Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess, and David Thewlis starred in the film.

Since 2018, Kate has been starring in the crime series The Widow, which premiered in spring 2019. The series also stars Charles Dance, Alex Kingston, and Jacky Ido.

Kate Beckinsale's personal life
The actress may have fewer love affairs than leading roles, but each one has been equally captivating.
