Biography of Bryce Dallas Howard
Bryce Dallas Howard is a popular American actress and a Golden Globe nominee (2008). She skillfully transforms into both sweet and charming characters and remarkable villains.Childhood
Bryce Dallas Howard was born in sunny Los Angeles and grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut. Her destiny seemed predetermined: her father is the world-renowned director Ron Howard, known for "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Da Vinci Code," and her mother is the writer and actress Cheryl Howard. Her parents made sure that Bryce and her siblings had a childhood away from show business. Bryce attended a regular school in Greenwich under the name Bryce Dallas, so she wouldn't be recognized only as "Howard's daughter."Despite this, the Howard children often appeared as extras in their father's films, and Bryce even had minor roles in Ron's comedies "Parenthood" with Steve Martin and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" starring Jim Carrey. In the ninth grade, Bryce performed in her school's production of "Guys and Dolls" and the variety show "I Am Woman." In 1999, after graduating from Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York, Howard attended the Stagedoor Manor performing arts camp with one of her close friends, actress Natalie Portman. Howard furthered her education at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama in 2003. That same year, she was fortunate to participate in the Broadway musical "A Tale of Two Cities." This marked the start of her rise on Broadway, where she began to be cast in leading roles in plays by Bernard Shaw and Anton Chekhov. We weren't coddled in the usual way. When I was horrified at the sight of snakes in my childhood, my mother gave me a pet snake. When I suddenly forgot the melody at my first piano concert and ran away in tears, my mother made me stay to support my peers. She wanted to toughen us up to be braver and less afraid when facing uncomfortable situations, which meant not spoiling us at all. Forget about comfort, she preached. Every problem we encountered became an opportunity to find ourselves.
Acting Career
The renowned mystical filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan noticed Bryce's gift during her Broadway performances. That's why he invited her without any audition to play the lead role in his thriller "The Village" (2004). Bryce had to portray an unusual blind girl who falls in love with and is taken away from her sectarian village by the main character played by Joaquin Phoenix. The role was a success for her, and in 2005 she rightfully received an MTV Movie Award nomination for Breakthrough Performance. In the same year, the renowned Danish director Lars von Trier chose Bryce to replace Nicole Kidman in the continuation of his drama "Dogville" – the film "Manderlay," which also starred Willem Dafoe. This was a challenging and exhausting role for the actress, who even had to completely undress for one of the scenes. In 2006, Bryce continued her collaboration with Shyamalan, playing the main role in his touching fantasy "Lady in the Water." Another success for Howard was her role in the romantic comedy "As You Like It" (2006) directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on Shakespeare's play, where Bryce played Rosalind and received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance. Her co-stars in the film were Romola Garai and Alfred Molina. Another breakthrough for the actress was the role of Gwen Stacy in the superhero film "Spider-Man 3" (2007) directed by Sam Raimi, where her co-star was Tobey Maguire. For her work, Bryce received her first substantial fee – one million dollars. In 2008, Howard played the main role in the romance "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond," where her character – a spoiled rich girl – falls in love with a poor man played by Chris Evans. Then, in her acting career, there were roles in such projects as "Terminator Salvation" (2009) with Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" with Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and in Clint Eastwood's drama "Hereafter" (2010) with Matt Damon. Howard's role in the social drama "The Help" (2011) was a winning ticket, where she played an aristocrat spoiled by money and status. Her co-stars on set this time were Emma Stone and Jessica Chastain. Bryce even received an MTV Movie Award nomination as "Best Villain," and the actresses together won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. A notable, though small, role for Bryce was in Jonathan Levine's drama "50/50" (2011), where the actress played the girlfriend of the main character. She leaves her boyfriend after learning that he has cancer. In 2012, the actress starred in the final part of the popular romance "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2." The next wave of popularity hit the actress in 2015 after the release of the sci-fi action film "Jurassic World," which was closely monitored by Steven Spielberg himself. Bryce starred there alongside another star – Chris Pratt. One of Howard's best TV projects was the British series "Black Mirror," in which the actress played the main role in the first episode of the third season. The episode was dedicated to a near future where a person's social status is rated by others through a mobile app. Bryce's character tries to increase her rating by any means to move into an elite residential complex, but all her efforts lead to the opposite result. Viewers called this episode, titled "Nosedive," one of the most disturbing in the anthology's history. In 2016, Bryce Dallas Howard brilliantly performed in the crime drama "Gold," where she played the wife of an adventurer portrayed by Matthew McConaughey. In the same year, the family fantasy "Pete's Dragon" was released, featuring Bryce and Robert Redford. In May 2018, the sequel "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" was released, where Bryce worked again with Chris Pratt and Rafe Spall. Despite a lukewarm reception compared to the first film, the creators have already announced the start of filming for the third installment. In 2019, Howard directed one of the episodes of the series "The Mandalorian," later directing two more episodes: the 4th episode of the 1st season, the 3rd episode of the 2nd season, and the 6th episode of the 3rd season. Later, Bryce directed the fifth episode of the first season of "The Book of Boba Fett," another series in the "Star Wars" universe, and also lent her voice to Jedi Master Yaddle in the animated series "Tales of the Jedi." In 2022, the actress returned to the screens in the third part of "Jurassic World." The shoot was accompanied by a scandal: Bryce revealed that she was strongly urged to lose weight before filming ("I've been asked to not use my natural body in cinema"), and moreover, she was paid significantly less than her co-star Chris Pratt, which again sparked discussions about gender inequality in the film industry.
Bryce Dallas Howard's Personal Life
While still a college student in 2001, Howard met actor Seth Gabel. Their shared love for cinema soon led to a romantic relationship, and the couple officially tied the knot in 2006. In the winter of 2007, they welcomed their first child, a son named Theodore, and in the winter of 2012, a daughter named Beatrice Jean. Additionally, it's worth noting that during the filming of "The Village," Howard became a vegan after her co-star, Joaquin Phoenix, showed her a documentary on animal cruelty called "Earthlings." However, during the summer of 2006, due to her pregnancy, she had to relax her diet and started consuming dairy products. Eventually, she decided to resume eating meat.Bryce Dallas Howard Now
