Uma Thurman's biography
Uma Thurman is a Hollywood icon known for taking on bold, eclectic roles that showcase her incredible range. She shot to global stardom with her unforgettable performances in Quentin Tarantino's cult classics "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill."
Uma's childhood
Uma was born in Boston in 1970 to a Swedish high fashion model and a German-born professor. Her father, Robert Thurman, was an expert in Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies, a former Buddhist monk, and close friend of the Dalai Lama – which explains why he named his daughter after Parvati (Uma), the Hindu goddess of beauty and light.
Uma's first roles
Uma decided to become an actress following a small but successful appearance in a school play. After dropping out of school at the age of 15, she spent most of her time mastering her acting skills and working to support herself – she worked as a waitress, model, and dishwasher. The then-unknown actress went to every casting call and moved from city to city pursuing her dreams.

From the start of her career, Uma established herself as an incredibly versatile actress who worked seamlessly with different directors and embraced diverse characters. In 1990 she appeared in John Boorman's romantic comedy «Where the Heart Is», but the film went largely unnoticed.

In 1992 she appeared in a neo-noir drama «Final Analysis», alongside Richard Gere and Kim Basinger, and in a mystery «Jennifer 8», alongside John Malkovich and Andy García. While both movies flopped at the box office, Uma's talent still shined through.

Collaboration with Tarantino
Uma Thurman achieved worldwide recognition and universal success after her iconic portrayal of Mia Wallace in Tarantino's cult classic «Pulp Fiction». Tarantino was very adamant about casting her and wouldn't even consider anyone else for that role. Uma wasn't entirely sure about taking the role, but she knew that working with the director behind the sensational heist film «Reservoir Dogs» would open countless doors.
Uma's powerhouse performance earned widespread critical acclaim, and the film landed on countless critics' lists of the greatest movies ever made. But after such massive success, she found herself in a string of forgettable films, unlike her «Pulp Fiction» costars Bruce Willis and John Travolta, who experienced full career revivals.

Kill Bill
According to Zoomboola.com, the Thurman-Tarantino collaboration is considered one of cinema's most successful and entertaining partnerships. In 2002 he offered her another extraordinary role: he confessed that he'd written the part specifically for her and was willing to delay filming due to the actress's pregnancy. This crazy and daring two-part action film became an instant hit for both Thurman and Tarantino and brought significant recognition to the actress and the director.

Career after «Kill Bill»
After such an intense experience, Uma decided to take a breather and pursue some lighter, less dramatic roles. She then appeared in comedies «Be Cool», «Prime», «My Super Ex-Girlfriend» and «The Accidental Husband». She proved once again that she's incredibly versatile and equally at home in drama or comedy.
At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Lars von Trier presented his new masterpiece – «The House That Jack Built», where Uma Thurman had one of the leading roles. The family comedy «A War with Grandpa» is set to premiere later this year, along with heist comedy «The Con Is On» and supernatural horror «Down a Dark Hall».
Uma Thurman's personal life
Not many fans realize that Uma was married to British actor Gary Oldman for two years – from 1990 to 1992. They later co-starred in the ill-fated film «The Avengers». The actors were completely incompatible – Uma was the «goody-two-shoes» type, while Gary was a rebel, which ultimately led to their divorce.
