Childhood and Family

Evan Thomas Peters was born in winter 1987 to Phil and Julie Peters in St. Louis, Missouri. His father served as vice president of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and was married twice. Through his father, Evan has a sister named Michelle. His mother was a homemaker who cared for Evan and his brother Andrew. Being a devout family, the boys attended St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Elementary School.

When Evan turned 14, the family moved to Grand Blanc, where he began exploring his artistic talents. A drama club teacher noticed his cheerful nature and artistic inclinations. Peters began performing on stage and participating in creative competitions, often taking home prizes.

His parents supported his ambitions and enrolled Evan in a drama studio on the teacher's advice. Simultaneously, he attended a modeling school and excelled in this field. After winning top prize at a Florida competition, Peters scored a photoshoot with a renowned professional who recommended him to a Los Angeles agent.

First Roles

To pursue his creative potential, sixteen-year-old Evan moved to the entertainment capital with his mother. With his agent's support, Peters walked fashion shows and auditioned for roles. His road to stardom started modestly with commercials for Papa John's Pizza, Albertson's grocery store, and a Sony gaming console.

After the commercials, Evan received an offer from the creators of the Disney series "Phil of the Future" (2004-2006) and appeared in 5 episodes. His mother recalls this being an incredibly busy year for Evan. Though the roles were small, they kept coming: he played Eric Tavela in "Monk," Craig Baskin in "Without a Trace," and John Daniels in "One Tree Hill."

American Horror Story and Other Roles

Following his breakthrough, Peters kept busy with acting work, though mainly in supporting roles. He played Jesse Varon in "Invasion," Ricky Hobbs in "An American Crime," and Ross in "Remarkable Power." He guest-starred on the hit medical drama "House M.D." alongside Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein. He also played Max Cooperman in the sports action film "Never Back Down" and Craig Hope in the dramatic comedy "Dirt." Additionally, he portrayed Oliver McDaniel in the detective thriller "The Mentalist" with Simon Baker in the lead role.

Evan's breakthrough came when he was cast in the lead role of Tate Langdon in the horror anthology "American Horror Story." The first season was set in a creepy murder house that appeared perfectly normal and inviting from the outside. The unsuspecting family who moved in had no idea the house came with the restless spirits of its previous residents. One of these ghosts, played by Peters, was a disturbed teen who had carried out a deadly school shooting.

The actor recalled:
What happened to my character in the past is awful and tragic. The problem is, it's not fiction. There have been so many school shootings, and Columbine is just one of them. It's terrible. But from an acting perspective, it's incredible to go that dark in front of the camera—it's every actor's dream. It's emotionally draining, but I loved filming that scene; it was fascinating work.
Peters' character became a fan favorite, and he returned in the second season as Kit Walker, a patient in a psychiatric hospital. Alongside Sarah Paulson, he became a series regular through all subsequent seasons until 2019, when he announced he wouldn't be returning for the ninth season. He cited burnout from playing such dark, intense characters season after season.

Horror fans particularly remember the character of serial killer James Patrick March, played by Evan, and his on-screen wife, portrayed by Lady Gaga. Peters frequently praised working with the pop superstar in interviews, noting that she's incredibly grounded in real life and a true team player. However, he also laughingly recalled that Lady Gaga's total commitment to her character was so intense that she genuinely freaked him out on set multiple times.

Another fan-favorite character was his portrayal of Quicksilver in the "X-Men" franchise, appearing in three films, plus a cameo in the superhero blockbuster "Deadpool 2."

For his role as Kai Anderson in the seventh season of the horror anthology "American Horror Story," Peters was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Saturn Awards and the Critics' Choice Television Awards. His anti-hero character, a psychopathic cult leader, seeks sole power in Brookfield Heights.

He then appeared in a crossover between the first and third seasons before announcing he'd be taking a career break. Fans speculated the decision was tied to his breakup with his fiancée, though these rumors were never confirmed.

Production on the tenth season of "American Horror Story," which would see Evan's return, was originally slated for October 2020. But COVID-19's resurgence in the U.S. forced the creators to adjust their timeline, though the show still premiered in 2021.

Additionally, in 2021, the actor appeared in Craig Zobel's drama "Mare of Easttown," where he played a detective.

Personal Life of Evan Peters

From 2007 to 2010, Evan was in a relationship with actress Alexandra Breckenridge, who was five years his senior. He was later linked to British model Pixie Geldof and actress Lindsay Lohan. He was also spotted frequently with colleague Alexia Quinn for about a year.

In 2012, Peters met actress Emma Roberts on the set of Scott Coffey's comedy-drama "Adult World," where they played the lead roles. They later worked together on "American Horror Story."

Their romance was anything but smooth. In summer 2013, the couple checked into a Montreal hotel where they had an explosive fight. The argument got so heated that neighbors called police, and both stars were hauled to the station. Roberts allegedly broke his nose and bit him during the altercation. The couple later reconciled, with reps from both camps releasing official statements calling it an "incident and misunderstanding."

The drama seemed to reset their relationship. A few years later, Evan proposed, but the wedding kept getting pushed back for reasons unknown. In 2019, they called it quits for good, with Peters scrubbing all their photos from his social media.

It later came out that while engaged to Evan, Roberts had gotten involved with actor Christopher Hines, though that fling ended quickly. Peters apparently forgave her, and they began making public appearances together again. But by fall 2019, paparazzi caught Evan with singer Halsey (real name Ashley Nicolette Frangipane). The pair hit up Almost Famous Halloween together and left as a couple. Rumors swirled that she was behind his final split from Emma.

In 2020, amid COVID-19 lockdowns, reports surfaced that Evan and Ashley had called it quits. Sources pointed to the fact that they'd spent quarantine apart. Neither commented on the breakup reports, but eagle-eyed fans noticed Halsey had scrubbed nearly all posts featuring her boyfriend from social media—except one from Switzerland where they'd celebrated Valentine's Day. She also posted a new photo with an ex she'd dated before Peters.

In May 2023, rumors linked Evan to actress Haley Lu Richardson, but if anything did happen between them, it stayed under the radar.

Evan Peters Now

In September 2022, Netflix released the first season of the anthology series "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" by "American Horror Story" showrunner Ryan Murphy, with Evan Peters in the lead role. The biographical series about the Milwaukee killer earned four Golden Globe nominations. Peters found the filming process challenging, but the sixth episode featuring Dahmer's deaf victim Tony Hughes proved especially difficult.
