Lady Gaga’s Biography

She holds many prestigious rewards, including Grammy, MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards. She was ranked as the most influential woman in the world by The Times newspaper.
Lady Gaga’s Early Years
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born on March 28, 1986 in New York. Her father - Joseph Germanotta - is an entrepreneur and an ex-musician; her mother’s name is Cynthia Louise. Both her parents are Americans of Italian origin.
Stefani loved music as a child; at the age of four she masterly played covers of Michael Jackson’s songs on the piano and recorded them on a tape recorder. She wrote her first composition at the age of thirteen.
In 1997 Stefani went to the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a Roman Catholic school. Paris Hilton and Caroline Kennedy were her classmates, but according to Lady Gaga, they mutually ignored each another.
Stefani was a dedicated and disciplined student, but her peers didn’t like her because of her extravagant clothes. The fact that she played in music bands also didn’t help her popularity.
In 2000 Lady Gaga started performing on the stage of the Bitter End club. At the same time, she started taking part in musical performances at school. At this age she also played in Regis Jazz Band.
A year later, Stefani was invited to play with Mackin Pulsifer and SGBand in New York down-town clubs. At the age of 15, she first appeared on stage wearing an ultra short mini-skirt and a bikini. From this moment on, a new, provocative season began in young Stefani’s life.
After graduating from school in 2003, she enrolled in the New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. During this time she moved from her parents’ home to the University dormitory. After two years, Stefani dropped out of the School of the Arts to pursue performing.
Lady Gaga’s Music Career
Stefani first used the pseudonym Lady GaGa in 2006. It originated from Freddie Mercury’s song Radio Ga-Ga. She had just begun working with producer Rob Fusari, who started calling her that. In Fusari’s words, Stefani was grimacing as much as the great singer in his video. Together with this producer she wrote a few songs, which she sang in New York clubs.
At the same time she signed her first contract with Def Jam Recordings, which falls under the global recording giant Universal Music Group. However, the contract was terminated a year later.
In 2008 Lady Gaga signed a new contract with Interscope Records. The show business bigwig - producer Vincent Herbert - helped her with this. The singer worked as a song writer for the record label. There she started writing songs for Britney Spears. Later, Lady Gaga met the rapper Akon, who liked her demo recordings. As a result, he signed a contract with her and recorded her first album at his own studio, Kon Live Records.
Lady Gaga’s First Fame
Lady Gaga‘s popularity started in 2008, when her first album The Fame came out in Canada. The CD had commercial success; it topped the charts in six countries and was among Top 10 albums according to radio stations’ ratings worldwide. The songs Just Dance and Poker Face earned special recognition.
Lady Gaga’s first concert after the release of the album took place in the autumn of that year. Musicians from New Kids on the Block band helped her. In January the following year she went on a European tour with Pussycat Dolls.
Her independent tour in North America started in March 2009. Over the next few years she received five Grammy Awards and twelve Grammy nominations.
Lady Gaga’s second album The Fame Monster came out in November 2009, including the singles Bad Romance, Telephone (with Beyoncé Knowles), Alejandro, Monster and Dance in the Dark.

At the MTV Video Music Awards in the autumn of 2010, Lady Gaga received eight Awards, setting a record in the ceremony’s history. At the same time, the Guinness Book of World Records awarded her the title of the most-searched woman on the Internet. In the autumn of 2014 Lady Gaga’s fourth CD – the Cheek to Cheek jazz album - was released. The work on this album had also started in 2012. The release date was planned for January 1, but in the process of recording, the deadlines had to be postponed a few quarters. The album was recorded together with American singer Tony Bennett. At the end of the year the singers embarked on a joint tour to promote the album.
At the 87th Academy Awards ceremony in 2015 the singer performed a few songs from the Sound of Music movie. A year later, the singer once again performed at the Academy Awards, as well as at the Grammy Awards ceremony, where she sang Space Oddity, Changes and Ziggy Stardust in remembrance of David Bowie.
In 2016 Lady Gaga presented her fans with her fifth album. The album had a more personal touch to it, and the songs were filled with the singer’s personal feelings.
Lady Gaga on the Big Screen
The star doesn’t only sing, travel the world and bask in her glory. She has always enjoyed acting, which is specifically seen in her videos and performances. It is therefore not surprising that Lady Gaga began playing in movies. Her first movie was Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills. However, the movie was a box-office flop, grossing only $15 million, while its budget was $20 million. For her role as the assassin La Chameleon, Lady Gaga was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actress.
In 2014 Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was released, where the star played a small role as Bertha.
At the end of February of 2016 the singer appeared in the fifth season of the American Horror Story series. The producers of the show advertised this fact two years before the release of the movie. Lady Gaga received a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Television Series Drama for her role as Countess Elizabeth Johnson.
Lady Gaga’s Personal Life
Until recently, there wasn’t much information about the singer’s personal life, apart from rumours and gossip. The star met actor Taylor Kinney on the set of the You and I music video in 2011. A few months later they began dating. In 2012 the couple split up for a while, but later resumed their affair.
On Valentine’s Day in 2015 the actor proposed to Lady Gaga, and she accepted. The star shared the news with her subscribers on Twitter. However, in the summer of 2016, the singer announced that she had broken up with Kinney.
In February 2017 the public learnt about Lady Gaga’s affair with her agent Christian Carino; the couple got engaged in the summer of 2017. However, in one of her interviews, the singer stated that due to some health complications and the tight tour schedule, the wedding had been postponed indefinitely.
