Keanu Reeves with Angel Wings Changes the Lives of a Rich Man and a Poor Man in "Good Fortune" Trailer

An angel who smokes, complains about his tiny wings, and questions his job? Yeah, that's not exactly the kind of angel we're used to seeing.

But that's exactly the kind of character Keanu Reeves plays in "Good Fortune" — Lionsgate's new comedy whose trailer has already dropped on YouTube.

What the trailer and film are about

Archangel Gabriel (Reeves) decides to save the life of poor loser Arge (Aziz Ansari) and... simply swaps him with his former boss — wealthy Jeff (Seth Rogen).

Arge suddenly wakes up in a life of luxury, while Jeff finds himself broke in a car. Both quickly realize: happiness isn't just about money, but it's not entirely about the lack of it either.

While the characters navigate their identity crisis, Gabriel himself isn't in great shape either: he complains about work and demands a meeting with God. Though the film clearly pokes fun at the "angel fixes lives" cliché, there's a relevant theme beneath this plot — about class differences, expectations, and inner emptiness.

Who's in the film

The cast includes Sandra Oh ("Killing Eve"), Keke Palmer ("Nope"), Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, and .

Ansari serves as both director and screenwriter. This marks his first feature film project since "Master of None," which earned him an Emmy. Work on "Good Fortune" began in 2023 but was delayed due to strikes. The film premieres October 17, after being showcased at the Toronto Film Festival.

Keanu and Gabriels

It's amusing that Reeves has dealt with Archangel Gabriel before. In 2005's "Constantine," an angel with the same name was played by Tilda Swinton — but as an antagonist obsessed with triggering the apocalypse. There, the angel tried to destroy the balance between good and evil. In "Good Fortune," Gabriel attempts to restore it, but in his own clumsy way.

Why you should look forward to this film

If nothing else, because Reeves is doing comedy. And that matters: after a string of action flicks and dark roles in "John Wick," the new "Matrix," and "Secret Level," audiences have missed the Keanu they fell in love with — the comedic hero. Remember "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (the third installment came out in 2020, by the way) — it had that same absurdity, but with heart.

Besides, who else could play an angel other than Keanu? He's practically an angel in real life: doesn't chase fame, does charity work, has no ego, stays down-to-earth, and respects personal boundaries.
