Family Man Loses His Cool in Trailer for "No Other Choice" from "Oldboy" Director Park Chan-wook

Neon has released the debut trailer. And from the very first frames, it's clear: we're in for a brutal, psychologically complex thriller about a man crushed by the system.

What the teaser trailer reveals

The teaser feels like it's piecing together fragments of the main character's life. He hugs his kids and wife, talks with colleagues at work, pretends everything's fine. But his fingers nervously tapping against his temple and the tears (his and his wife's) give away the internal pressure building inside.

The teaser's final shots — bullet casings found all over the city — hint that he's finally made his decision. And there's no going back now.

What the film's about

The story's based on Donald Westlake's novel "The Ax." It follows a man who gets fired after 25 years on the job. For several years, he unsuccessfully searches for a new position. As his desperation grows, he decides to physically eliminate all the more qualified competitors.

Costa-Gavras already adapted this novel back in 2005 ("The Ax"), but Park Chan-wook says he's dreamed of making his own version as "the main film of his life," according to Variety.
