3 New Movies Coming Out June 12: Drama with Sydney Sweeney, Action Film with Rebel Wilson, and Rom-Com from A24

Starting June 12, several new releases are hitting movie theaters worldwide that shouldn't be missed.

This roundup covers three premieres featuring Sydney Sweeney in a drama, Dakota Johnson navigating romantic complications, and Rebel Wilson with a gun in her garter.

"The Materialists"

Release: June 12 (A24)

Director: Celine Song

Starring: Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal

A romantic comedy with bite. The lead is Lucy (Dakota Johnson), a successful NYC matchmaker who knows everything about love... except how to handle it in her own life. Enter a charismatic millionaire (Pedro Pascal), but her past — in the form of waiter-turned-actor John (Chris Evans) — won't stay buried.

Everything looks perfect until an emotional storm hits: clients suffer, business crumbles, and Lucy finds herself caught in the middle of her own internal conflict.

Director Celine Song (whose "Past Lives" was 2023's quiet sensation) returns to explore feelings — delicately, with a feminine touch, but with a razor-sharp view of reality. Expect awkwardness, sadness, and light — just like real life.

"Bride Hard"

Release: June 19 (Balcony 9)

Director: Simon West

Starring: , Anna Camp, Anna Chlumsky

If you think weddings and shootouts don't mix, Rebel Wilson's about to prove you wrong. She plays a secret agent disguised as a bridesmaid. But the tropical island celebration with champagne and lanterns ends when mercenaries show up with assault rifles. You can guess what happens next.

This isn't "Mission: Impossible," but as far as crazy action comedies go, the film looks solid. Wedding games have never been this dangerous.

"Echo Valley"

Release: June 13 (Apple Films)

Director: Michael Pearce

Starring: , Julianne Moore, Kyle MacLachlan

Here's a much more restrained story. Kate (Julianne Moore) lives on a Pennsylvania farm, worn down by life and personal tragedies. But one day her daughter Claire (Sydney Sweeney) shows up at her door — looking like she's been attacked, frightened and silent. Now the mother must decide how far she's willing to go to protect a child who's long since become a stranger.

The script comes from Brad Ingelsby — writer of "Mare of Easttown" — so expect a slow, thick, but gripping drama. You won't get answers in the first few minutes, but you'll definitely have something to think about when the screen goes dark.

Three genres, three tones, three formats. Which movie you choose depends on your mood. But all three films, in their own way, explore what matters most: the connections between people and that line where reason gives way to the heart. Earlier on zoomboola.com we covered three series that premiered in spring 2025: a mysterious island, an Amazon comedy, and the new "The Four Seasons"
