"Doomed to Fail": Audiences Slam "Christy" Trailer Featuring Sydney Sweeney as a Boxer

The trailer for biopic "Christy" has been released — the story of women's boxing legend Christy Martin. Sydney Sweeney takes the lead role, for which the actress had to gain nearly 33 pounds and undergo months of grueling training.

But viewer opinions about the trailer are split down the middle: some think this is her serious shot at an Oscar, while others believe the film is "doomed to fail."

Viewer Reactions

The trailer on YouTube already has thousands of comments — and they couldn't be more divided.

Some viewers are backing :
  • "Good for her breaking out of the 'hot girl' image. Serious acting."
  • "Give her an Oscar already!"
  • "I love Sydney Sweeney's performance. Hope she gets a Golden Globe or SAG Award soon."
But the other half of commenters are convinced the movie will bomb:
  • "This looks so stupid. It's doomed to fail."
  • "She doesn't look buff at all like they promised."
  • "Looks like generic Oscar bait."
  • "I like Sydney, but she's completely miscast here."
Some are even joking that Sweeney is becoming the "female Pedro Pascal" — an actor who shows up in absolutely everything.

Role Preparation

Critics aside, you can't knock Sweeney's work ethic. For the role, she spent three months following a brutal schedule: morning strength training, several hours of kickboxing during the day, and back to weights in the evening. A mass-building diet completely transformed her physique.

The Film's Story

Christy tells the journey of world boxing champion Christy Martin — the first woman inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. From the late '80s, she fought nearly 60 bouts, landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and even shared the ring with Mike Tyson.

But outside the arena, she faced an even tougher fight: a toxic marriage to trainer Jim Martin (Ben Foster) that ended with an attempt on her life.

Whatever critics might say about her new role, Christy could become Sweeney's most talked-about film yet. Will this be the movie that transforms her career? We'll find out when it hits theaters. The premiere is set for November 7th. Earlier, we at zoomboola.com covered the first released still from the Christy Martin film.
