The cult movie "Star Wars" left a huge impression on young Pegg, influencing his career choice. As a child, he collected action figures from the film and even kissed a picture of Leia Organa, the daughter of the leader of the Galactic Empire, before going to bed. When another episode of the franchise titled "The Phantom Menace" was released in 1999, an adult Simon traveled to New York to see it two months before it was released in the UK.

Pegg attended Castle Hill Primary School and later Brockworth and Gloucester secondary schools. From the age of 16, he studied drama and English literature at Stratford-upon-Avon College.
