Hannah John-Kamen Biography

Hannah John-Kamen is a British actress who shot to fame through her roles in the series "Killjoys" and "Game of Thrones," as well as Steven Spielberg's film "Ready Player One."

Childhood and Youth

Hannah John-Kamen was born on September 6, 1989, in the small English town of Anlaby. Her father, who's Nigerian, works as a forensic psychologist, while her Norwegian mother was formerly a model. Hannah is the youngest of three children in the family.

During her childhood and youth, John-Kamen was deeply involved in music, playing piano and diving into dance and ballet – today she's an accomplished dancer in salsa, tap, and jazz. Hannah received her acting training at the National Youth Theatre in London, and in 2012 she graduated from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Britain's capital.

Acting Career

Hannah John-Kamen's acting career kicked off in 2011 when she lent her voice to the video game Dark Souls. The young actress then popped up in episodes of popular TV series like "Misfits" (2011), "Whitechapel" (2012), "The Hour" (2012), and others.

In 2012, Hannah tried her hand at something completely different – she landed the lead role in the musical "Viva Forever!" based on songs by the legendary Spice Girls. While the production mostly got panned by critics, Hannah's performance earned high praise. The musical closed in June 2013.

2015 proved to be a breakthrough year for John-Kamen. She scored the lead role in the sci-fi series "Killjoys," appeared in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (as a First Order officer), and had a small but memorable part in season 6 of the mega-hit "Game of Thrones" (playing Ornela, a member of the Dosh Khaleen, the clan of khaleesi widows).

In 2016, Hannah got lucky with a role in an episode of season 3 of the acclaimed dystopian anthology "Black Mirror," plus a part in season 2 of the British detective series "The Tunnel."

2018 brought Hannah two major roles in successful blockbuster projects. In the adventure action flick "Tomb Raider," she played Sophie, Lara Croft's (Alicia Vikander) best friend, while in Steven Spielberg's sci-fi film "Ready Player One," Hannah appeared as F'Nale Zandor, the determined and cold-blooded head of IOI operations in the physical world, assistant to the scheming Nolan Sorrento (Ben Mendelsohn).

On July 5, 2018, the Marvel Studios superhero film "Ant-Man and the Wasp" hit theaters, with Hannah taking on the role of Ghost – a criminal with the ability to phase through matter. This character is traditionally portrayed as male in the comics, but the filmmakers chose to reimagine the role for a female performer.

Hannah's co-stars included screen legends like Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, Michelle Pfeiffer, and others.

In 2019, "Killjoys" wrapped up its run, and Hannah said goodbye to her cosmic alter-ego before diving into a completely different universe – the dark British Netflix series "The Stranger." At the same time, Hannah was working on the series "Brave New World," where she played Helm Watson, an artist who turned sex into high art. "For her, all roads lead to an orgy," the actress joked, but behind those words lay a sad truth.

The intimate scenes were filmed with an intimacy coordinator – a new approach that Hannah appreciated. "It takes away the awkwardness and embarrassment," she explained. But Peacock canceled the series after just one season.

2021 turned out to be action-packed: first Hannah suited up as Dr. Sophie Hart in the action thriller "SAS: Red Notice," then transformed into the legendary Jill Valentine in the new "Resident Evil."
