Evangeline Lilly's biography

Evangeline Lilly is a famous Canadian actress who became popular for her leading role in the «Lost» TV series. She found success playing in the first and second parts of Peter Jackson's «The Hobbit» trilogy and the «Ant-Man and the Wasp» superhero picture by Marvel. Net worth: $15 million.

Childhood and youth

Nicole Evangeline Lilly was born on 3 August 1979 in a province of Canada named Alberta, in Fort Saskatchewan. Her father was an economics professor and her mother worked as a beauty consultant. The parents were very religious which is the reason why Evangeline and her both younger sisters were raised strictly. There was no TV at home and the kids went to movies less than three times a year.

Despite these restrictions, Eva grew up as a real tomboy. She fearlessly rafted canoes with her guy friends, conquered steep mountain slopes, and competed in cycling races. At the same time, she was a sensitive and sympathetic girl. As a teenager, she joined a volunteer organization helping disadvantaged children.
Evangeline taught at a Christian Sunday school and went to the Philippines on a charity mission to help the sick and poor. She lived in a thatched hut deep in the jungle, enduring the harsh tropical climate and countless insect bites.

Returning to Canada she thought of entering the faculty of International Relations of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. She needed a job to pay for school, so Evangeline worked as a waitress, though not for long. The modest young woman was uncomfortable with customers who looked her up and down and made crude jokes.

She became a flight attendant, thinking airline passengers would be more respectful. But facing the same issues in the sky, she took a job at a gas station, wearing baggy clothes. There she met hockey player Murray Hone, who became a close friend and later her husband. He encouraged her to embrace her natural beauty and contact a modeling agency.

Acting career

Following his advice, Lilly soon began appearing in commercials and landed photo shoots with glossy magazines. Landing a contract with Ford Models in 2001 marked a major breakthrough for the aspiring model, whose agent had spotted the striking young woman right on the street. Soon Evangeline was offered jobs in cinema and TV.

In 2003 she played a schoolgirl in the American horror film «Freddy vs. Jason» and a year later appeared in episodes of «Smallville» and «Kingdom Hospital» series, even hosting a television show where single men and women searched for love.

According to Zoomboola.com, in 2004 Lilly participated in the casting for the «Lost» American series. Surprisingly, she landed the leading role instead of actress Yunjin Kim, who was originally planned for the part. However, Evangeline nearly missed filming due to American visa issues, but managed to get her documents sorted in time and didn't let down the film crew.

The character of Kate Austen, which Evangeline masterfully portrayed for 6 seasons of «Lost», became a career-defining breakthrough for the unknown Canadian actress. The series won several prestigious television awards, with Lilly earning an impressive 13 nominations and wins. Though she wasn't initially eager to commit her entire career to acting, directors had bigger plans for her.

In 2008, the actress appeared in two films simultaneously – "Afterwards" and "The Hurt Locker." Then in 2011, "Real Steel" was released with Evangeline in the leading role.

Three years later, Evangeline played the elf Tauriel in the iconic fantasy "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" alongside Orlando Bloom and Lee Pace, and appeared in the trilogy's final installment a year later.

In 2015, superhero movie fans got a surprise when "Ant-Man" was released, with Lilly playing the Wasp – a hero in a suit that could shrink her to insect size in a split second. The film was met with great enthusiasm, which inspired producers to create the sequel "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018). While the Wasp Hope van Dyne wasn't at the center of the first film's story, she took equal billing alongside Ant-Man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) in the sequel.

The actress easily adapted to playing a superwoman since she spends a lot of time working out and is in great physical shape. Even the sophisticated, specially designed latex suit didn't pose a serious challenge for her. The main motivator for taking part in the project was her little son Kahekili who is incredibly proud that his mom is the Wasp.

In fall 2017, the horror comedy "Little Evil" was released worldwide, with Lilly playing the girlfriend of the main character, whose six-year-old son turns out to be a literal spawn of Hell.

Evangeline Lilly's personal life

In 2003, Lilly married Murray Hone (mentioned earlier) but soon realized she felt more friendship than romance toward him.

On the set of "Lost," the actress experienced her first real love. She fell for actor Dominic Monaghan, who played rocker and drug addict Charlie and was already famous for playing Merry in "The Lord of the Rings."

After honestly confessing to her husband and filing for divorce, Evangeline threw herself completely into the new relationship. Their romance lasted three years, and Dominic even proposed, but the wedding never happened.

In 2011, it became known that the actress was pregnant by Norman Kali, an assistant director on "Lost." Baby Kahekili was born in March – a name that translates from Hawaiian as "thunder." The couple became parents for the second time in 2015.

Recently, the actress hasn't been as active in films. However, in spring 2019, the fantasy action movie "Avengers: Endgame" premiered, with Evangeline once again suiting up as a superwoman ready to battle cosmic villains.
