John C. McGinley to Return as Dr. Perry Cox in "Scrubs" Revival

Fans have waited: returning to the cult sitcom are not only Zach Braff (J.D.), Donald Faison (Turk) and Sarah Chalke (Elliot), but also John C. McGinley.

His biting monologues and sarcastic Dr. Perry Cox were one of the main pillars of "Scrubs" — and now he's become the last original cast member to officially join the project, reports Variety.

The Details

ABC is launching the continuation. Behind it are showrunners Tim Hobert and Asim Batra, who worked on the original, plus Bill Lawrence, creator of "Scrubs".

Braff, Faison, and Chalke will return not just as actors, but as executive producers too. Judy Reyes, who played Carla, is in talks to appear in several episodes. McGinley is officially confirmed.

About the Series and Cast

The official description states: "J.D. and Turk are working together again for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed, the interns have changed, but their friendship has stood the test of time."

The new season will be a hybrid sequel-reboot: the old characters become mentors while new surgical interns get most of the screen time.

What to Expect

Producers promise to preserve the signature humor, emotional depth, and that special atmosphere that made "Scrubs" iconic. ABC has a chance to recreate the original's success and deliver a series that works both on nostalgia and for a new generation.
"Scrubs" opening credits
There's skepticism too, of course. The comparison to "The Office" is inevitable: the recently launched spinoff "The Paper" turned out too similar to the original and got criticized for being derivative.

With "Scrubs," it's crucial for creators not to get stuck rehashing old tricks, but to give the story fresh life.

If they find the right balance, this could be one of the biggest classic series comebacks in recent years. The premiere is set for mid-season 2025–2026. Earlier, we at zoomboola.com detailed what critics are saying about "The Office" spinoff.
