HBO: Draco Malfoy's friends in "Harry Potter" series will be played by Fin Stevens and William Nash. Plus 7 more new cast members

HBO continues to reveal its cards around its most anticipated project. In the new "Harry Potter" series, the roles of Draco Malfoy's friends — Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle — have gone to young actors Finn Stevens and William Nash.

They'll be joined by seven more casting newcomers, including Elijah Oshin (Dean Thomas) and Breda Brennan (Madam Pomfrey). Most intriguingly, Warwick Davis is returning to the project, once again playing Professor Flitwick.

Crabbe and Goyle: New Faces for Old Characters

While the films featured Jamie Waylett and Josh Herdman as Malfoy's loyal sidekicks, now Finn Stevens and William Nash are stepping into their roles.

These characters were always more than just background players: children of Death Eaters, pure-blood wizards, symbols of that very "Slytherin" environment where Draco felt like the king of the castle. Now it'll be fascinating to see what depth the TV version adds to their roles.

Half-blood wizard Dean Thomas also gets a fresh face: Elijah Oshin will become Harry's Gryffindor dormmate. In the original series, Alfred Enoch played the role.

Who Else Joined the Cast

Along with new faces, viewers can expect some familiar ones too. Warwick Davis has been part of the film saga since the first movie, where he played not only the Charms professor but also the goblin Griphook. In the series, he'll focus exclusively on Flitwick, while the Griphook role goes to Lee Gill, known from "Joker."

Other fresh names include Seren Saba (Professor Sprout), Richard Durden (ghost Cuthbert Binns), and the already-mentioned Breda Brennan as Madam Pomfrey.

What We Know About the HBO Series

Filming kicked off in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden and will run through spring 2026. Each season will tackle one book, giving the show a real chance to showcase way more detail than the films ever could.

Audiences already know who's playing the key roles: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

HBO promises an adaptation that stays incredibly close to the books—with focus on secondary characters and storylines that got lost when scripts were trimmed down. For fans, this means finally seeing everything J.K. Rowling wrote about.

HBO clearly isn't just looking to remake the movies—they want to create a new classic that's more detailed, darker, and closer to the source material. And judging by the cast, which seems to match the book descriptions perfectly, this gamble might just pay off. Earlier, we at zoomboola.com told you about the actors playing Fred, George, Percy, and Ginny Weasley. And here you can check out how actor Nick Frost looks as Hagrid.
