Hiccup meets Toothless for the first time in the new trailer for the remake of `How to Train Your Dragon`

What other characters were shown in the video? And why is it worth looking forward to the adaptation of the animated film about the life of Vikings? We explain.

The new trailer for the live-action remake was presented by Universal Pictures. The trailer is specially made for the IMAX format, highlighting its spectacular visuals and fidelity to the original.

The lead roles are played by Mason Thames ("The Black Phone") and Nico Parker ("The Last of Us"). Gerard Butler played Stoick—he voiced this character in the animated film and now appears on screen.

As for the trailer itself, it almost shot-for-shot recreates the key moments from the original.

In one scene, we see Hiccup encountering Toothless for the first time: the dragon tenses, preparing to attack—then suddenly something changes. He retreats, later allowing the boy to touch him.

Gradually, a friendship develops between them: Hiccup feeds him fish, crafts a saddle, and rides him for the first time. The finale features scenes of a viking village attack and a promise of a big battle in which the boy and the dragon will, of course, participate.

The positives include not only the visuals—which are undoubtedly in order—but also the involvement of director Dean DeBlois. This is the same person who directed the animated trilogy. So there's no need to worry about the quality of the project.

Viewers who have already watched the trailer are sharing their opinions in the comments:
Oh my God, I'm not a fan of live-action remakes, but every time I see promos and trailers for this film, I go back to the days when I first saw this story. Even though the animated trilogy will always dominate, I'm fully confident that these live-action films will do justice to the original franchise.

The premiere will take place on June 13, 2025. And, judging by the trailer, this is a case where the remake doesn't try to be smarter than the original but lovingly continues it. Earlier, we at zoomboola.com analyzed the trailer for the body horror "Together" with James Franco's brother Dave.
