IMDb fans are saying: "If you love cats and dark humor — this show is exactly for you." The project comes from studio OLM, known for "Pokémon" (since 1997) and the classic "Berserk" (1997) — but this time they've created something completely insane.
What viewers are saying
On IMDb, the anime holds a solid 6.5 out of 10, and the reviews read like a cat therapy session:- "The series seems quite cute, silly and funny," — budddmj.
- "I found it very funny, even though the jokes are mostly about how cute cats are... but I was still laughing," — tylasya-78312.
- "Be warned: you're in for almost unbearably adorable cuteness," — alisonc-1.
- "If you love cats and absurd comedies, this anime is 100% for you. I haven't laughed this hard in ages," — matthewdaniel-37025.
What the anime is about
In an alternate Japan, a virus is raging: at the slightest contact with cat fur, a person turns into a cat — literally. Humanity is gripped by a "cat-astrophe," and the heroes hide in ruins, escaping not from zombies, but from the cutest creatures on the planet. The main character of "Nyaight of the Living Cat" isn't a super soldier, but an ordinary guy named Kunagi who knows cat behavior well. But that doesn't always help, especially when infection happens through... hugs.
Viewing impressions
The anime doesn't limit itself to just funny and cute moments: director Tomohiro Kamitani mixes comedy with post-apocalypse, zombie tropes with philosophical inserts, and "cuteness" with genuine anxiety. Cats here are a threat, but they remain heroes you can't resist. The music only amplifies the effect: the opening "Cat City" sets an upbeat rhythm, while the ending "Matatabi" adds irony. The anime jokes, occasionally scares, "meows," and makes viewers wonder — can you really resist something that purrs on your lap?

Should you watch it
If you connect with the spirit of "Shaun of the Dead," if you don't mind laughing at horror clichés, and if you have at least one cat at home — "Nyaight of the Living Cat" is worth turning on. Even if the concept runs out of steam by the finale, the first episodes are a mix of absurd but entertaining plot and fluffy comedy that's hard to stop watching. The series probably won't get a second season — but as a one-off anime oddball, it works perfectly. Earlier we at zoomboola.com covered the trailer for the anime "Rooster Fighter," where a talking rooster battles giant monsters.
