3 New Movies and Shows Coming July 29th: Zombies, Divorce Comedy, Historical Epic

This week we'll be treated to the long-awaited sequel to a cult horror classic, a comedy with a light touch of reality, and a historical epic starring Jason Momoa. Here are three projects worth checking out in late July and early August.

"28 Years Later"

Digital Release: July 29

Starring: Alfie Williams, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes

Post-apocalyptic horror from Danny Boyle — the continuation of cult classics "28 Days Later" and "28 Weeks Later". Britain still can't handle the virus after 28 years. Against this nightmare backdrop comes the story of a boy who sets out to find a doctor for his dying mother.

"Leanne" (Series)

Premiere: July 31 on Netflix

Starring: Leanne Morgan, Celia Weston, Ryan Stiles

A 16-episode comedy about starting over after divorce. Leanne (played by stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan) finds herself alone after 33 years of marriage — and decides to begin again with support from family who clearly don't know how to give her space.

While the story draws from Morgan's personality, the divorce itself is fictional. In real life, she's doing just fine. But in the series — expect fun, chaos, and moments that'll bring you to tears.

"Chief of War" (Mini-Series)

Premiere: August 1 on Apple TV+

Starring: Jason Momoa, Cliff Curtis, Temuera Morrison

A 9-episode historical epic about how Hawaii was split into four kingdoms at the end of the 18th century, and how one warrior named Kaiana leads an uprising to change the course of history.

Momoa's not just starring here — he's producing too. Lots of battles, lots of stunning landscapes. This is historical drama that feels like a powerful action thriller. Earlier on zoomboola.com, we covered four new films that dropped on July 22: a happy Adam Sandler and a lovestruck Pedro Pascal.
