Tyler Hoechlin biography
Tyler Hoechlin is an American actor, known for his roles in the TV series 7th Heaven and Teen Wolf, as well as the full-length drama Road to Perdition.
Childhood and youth
Tyler was born on September 11, 1987, in the Californian city of Corona, in Don and Lori Hoechlin’s family. Tyler has brothers, Tanner and Travis, and a sister Carrie.
At the age of 7, Hoechlin got keen on baseball. Later, he played for the University of Arizona and the Battle Creek Bombers team in the Northwoods League, during the games of which the best players in the world meet.
Tyler began to act in the films as a child. In 1998, the young actor appeared in the children’s musical film Disney Sing Along Songs: Happy Haunting, timed to coincide with Halloween. Together with other kids, he sang the most popular songs from Disney cartoons.
The following year, little Tyler was offered a role in the full-length drama Family Tree, and two years later, the teenager appeared in the fantasy film Train Quest.
In 2002, Tyler played in tandem with Tom Hanks in Sam Mendes’s gangster thriller Road to Perdition. He played as Michael Sullivan Jr. ‒ a teenager who once decided to find out what his father actually did, which led to terrible consequences.
The filmmakers preferred Tyler to 2,000 young actors, who went through casting for the role. For filming, 14-year-old Hoechlin had to learn to drive a car, which he did with great pleasure (although he was still ensured by the stuntman).
The film won an Oscar for amazing cinematography, and Tyler himself was awarded the Saturn prize as the best young actor of the year.
The casting director of the series 7th Heaven drew attention to Hoechlin’s play in Road to Perdition, and in 2003, the young man joined the cast of this melodrama, aired since 1996. Tyler reincarnated in Martin Brewer from Season 8 to Season 11, right up to the end of the series. In 2004, the guy was nominated for the Teen Choice Award for the category Male Breakout Star.
The following year, the actor was again nominated, but already for the category TV Actor: Drama, but the award went again to another actor, Adam Brody from the series The O.C.
In 2007, the last season of the series 7th Heaven was filmed, but Hoechlin did not stay without work. Over the following three years, Tyler starred in the lead role in the horror film Grizzly Rage and Solstice and appeared in episodes of the much talked-of television series CSI: Miami, My Boys, Castle and Lincoln Heights.
2011 was extremely successful for Tyler. At once three pictures with his participation were released ‒ the drama Open Gates (the lead role), the comedy Hall Pass with Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis and Christina Applegate (Hoechlin got a supporting role) and the comedy short film Charlie Brown: Blockhead’s Revenge, which also starred Holland Roden and Dylan O’Brien.
In the same year, the actor was invited to play as werewolf Derek Hale in the TV series Teen Wolf. In the teenage mystical saga, Hale was one of the leading characters from Season 1 to Season 4. On the set, Tyler’s colleagues were Tyler Posey, Dylan O’Brien, Colton Haynes, Cody Christian and Shelley Hennig.
In 2013, Hoechlin (among other actors of the Teen Wolf) won Young Hollywood Award for Best Ensemble nomination. In 2014, thanks to Derek Hale, Tyler became the winner of the Teen Choice Awards in the nomination Choice Movie: Male Scene Stealer.
Shooting in the series took the young actor a lot of time, but he found time to play the lead role in the film Melvin Smarty and the comedy The Sticks, in which he appeared as the sexy policeman Clark Russell.
After taking a break from work on the TV show in 2014, Hoechlin began acting in two full-length films: the comedy Everybody Wants Some!!, about a group of baseball players in the 1980s, and the sports drama Undrafted. Both films were released on big screens in 2016.
Besides, in 2016, Tyler was approved for Clark Kent’s role in the TV series Supergirl. The lead role of Supergirl, Superman’s cousin, was performed by Melissa Benoist, while Hoechlin appeared only in 4 episodes of the series.
In April 2017, the action movie Stratton was released, about the clash between the special operations forces of the British Armed Forces and international terrorists. Besides Tyler, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films), Dominic Cooper and Connie Nielsen appeared in the film. The film received quite low ratings from viewers, and Simon West’s directorial work was called sterile.
In July and September 2017, three episodes of the 6th season of Teen Wolf were released, in which Hoechlin’s character, who missed the 5th season, appeared again.

In 2005, actress and singer Candice Accola, known for the role of Caroline Forbes in the TV series The Vampire Diaries, became the girlfriend of the actor.
After parting with Candice, Hoechlin began love- affair with Mackenzie Rosman, the actress and colleague on the set of 7th Heaven, but the relationship did not last long.
