Pamela Anderson’s Biography

Pamela Anderson is a Canadian-American actress, model and sex symbol of the ‘90s. She became popular after starring in the Baywatch TV series. Throughout her career Anderson exploited (with varying results) the image of a femme fatale and a woman of easy virtue from the cover of Playboy magazine; she became the symbol of ostentatious sexuality in pop culture.

Early Years

Pamela Denise Anderson was born on July 1, 1967 in Ladysmith, a small Canadian town. Her father was a furnace repairman and her mother was a waitress.

Pamela’s great-grandfather, Juho Hyytiäinen, a Finn, moved to Canada from the Grand Duchy of Finland (part of the Russian Empire at the time) in 1908 and changed his surname to Anderson. Pamela has Russian ancestry on her mother’s side - her Russian great-grandmother immigrated to Netherlands and then to Canada.

Early fame came to Pamela right after she was born: she was called a Centennial Baby by the press due to the fact that she was born on the 100th anniversary of Canada’s official founding and the issue of the Constitution Act in 1867.

Pamela was a very shy child. Many years later, she revealed that she was molested by her nanny for four years and raped by a 25-year-old guy at the age of twelve. Apart from that, at the age of fourteen, Anderson was gang-raped by her boyfriend and his six friends.

These grave experiences made the girl move to Vancouver after finishing school. Pamela, who was good at sports in high school, got a job as a fitness instructor in Vancouver.

Modeling Career

In 1989 Anderson attended a soccer match in Vancouver wearing a t-shirt with the Labatt brewing company’s logo and was shown on the big stadium screen. She was noticed by the company’s agents and was offered the job of a press secretary.

The well-endowed blonde soon appeared on the cover of the October issue of Playboy. On the crest of success Anderson moved to Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career. In the beginning of 1990 Anderson’s photo was published in the centerfold of the magazine as the Playmate of the Month.

Playboy empowered me. It really saved my life. I felt very trapped inside and needed to free myself. It was a breakthrough for me, and there I met artists and activists and gentleman. It has been a fun and wild life.

After moving to Los Angeles, Pamela was cast in a secondary role in the comedy series Tool Time Girl. After two seasons, Anderson left the show to take up the lead role in the Baywatch TV series about California beaches’ lifeguards.

Thanks to this series, Pamela has become known as a sex symbol across the world, and the Baywatch series entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the most-watched TV show in the world at that time.

Pamela starred in five seasons of the series from 1992 to 1997. At the same time Anderson continued working for Playboy, starred in the comedy series Home Improvement (1991-1997), took part in fashion shows and played in music videos.

During that time she also starred in full-length movies: the thriller Snapdragon (1993), the action movie Raw Justice (1994), the science-fiction movie Barb Wire (1996) and the erotic thriller Naked Souls (1996). Most of these movies turned out to be box office flops.

In 1998 Anderson was cast in the lead role for the comedy action series V.I.P. where she plays the boss of a bodyguard agency catering for the rich and famous. Pamela played in the series until 2002.

Later, there were roles in the movies Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, starring Carmen Electra, and Scary Movie 3 with Anna Faris and Charlie Sheen. Moreover, Pamela became the prototype for the main character in the animated series Stripperella (2003-2004).

In 2004 Pamela published her book Star, the story of a teenager striving to become famous. Her second book The Sequel Star Struck, published in 2005, is a thinly-veiled account of her life with Tommy Lee.

In April 2005 Anderson got a role in the sitcom Stacked where she plays the party girl Skyler Dayton, who gets a job at a book store. After two seasons the show was closed down.

In the spring of 2006 it was announced that Pamela Anderson would receive a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. In the same year Pamela appeared as herself in Larry Charles’s mockumentary Borat, starring the British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. From 2007 to 2008 the actress appeared in two semi-successful movies Blonde and Blonder and Superhero Movie.

This was followed by small roles in different series and movies where Pamela would often appear as herself. In 2010 Anderson took part in season 10 of the American show Dancing with the Stars, together with the professional dancer Damian Whitewood (the couple was eliminated after the seventh week). In 2013 the actress tried her hand at figure skating in the eighth season of the British reality show Dancing on Ice.

In 2017 the actress appeared in a secondary role in Seth Gordon’s comedy Baywatch, where most of the characters are named after the illustrious series of the ‘90s. The lead roles in the comedy are played by Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron and Alexandra Daddario. In September that same year, Alex Israel’s movie SPF-18 was released, which, apart from Pamela, starred Keanu Reeves.

Public Activities

Pamela is a member of PETA, an organization that fights for animal rights. The actress took part in several campaigns against the use of natural fur, the KFC franchise, seal hunting in Canada, etc.

In February 1995 Anderson got married to Tommy Lee, the drummer of the American glam-metal band Mötley Crüe, after knowing him for just 4 days. The couple got married on a beach - Anderson wore a bikini for the ceremony. The actress’ mother learnt about her daughter’s marriage from the People magazine. Pamela adopted her husband’s surname, which she used as her stage name for a few years. In 1995 a personal sex video was stolen from their home, which made a huge stir on the Internet.

The couple had two sons: Brendon Thomas (born 1996) and Dylan Jagger (born 1997). Pamela and Tommy’s family life wasn’t peaceful; the couple often had arguments and even physical fights. They got divorced after Lee was sentenced to six months in jail for spousal abuse.

In December the couple split up and in February 2008 Anderson requested through courts that the marriage be annulled, citing fraud - the actress claimed that Salomon regularly lied to her. In January 2014 the actress announced that she had married Salomon for the second time; however, in the beginning of 2015 they got divorced.

In the same year Anderson confirmed her participation in Verner Herzog’s movie Vernon God Little about a shooting in a school. The former boxer Mike Tyson will play one of the roles in the movie.
