Starting over: Madonna is adapting her biography into a series

The project for her film about her own youth stalled.

For several years, singer Madonna was writing a feature film script about her biography. It was previously reported that Universal Pictures would handle the production, and an actress had already been chosen to play the young pop star—Julia Garner. She indeed fits the appearance and vibe very well.

However, Madonna has been focusing more on concerts than films. As a result, in 2023, news broke that the feature film project was shelved. Later, the singer shared with fans on social media that she would like to tell her story in a series format.

Now, Deadline reports that the pop queen has found new partners for the adaptation—streaming service Netflix and director Shawn Levy, who is filming “Stranger Things” for the platform.

The singer and director, who are also serving as executive producers, have already discussed how they will work on the series—the project is in its early stages. It is not related to the canceled biopic: is starting from scratch. Perhaps we will finally see on screen how she dropped out of college in Michigan and flew to New York with just $35 to pursue a dance career.

Julia Garner should not be counted out just yet. She is like a fish in water at Netflix—a star of the series “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna.” Previously, zoomboola.com reported on why Al Pacino behaved rudely with Madonna on the set of the film “Dick Tracy.”
