The sci-fi series `Eternaut` has become a hit on Netflix and surpassed `The Last of Us` in popularity

What is the main science fiction project of this year, based on a story from a 50s comic? We tell you.

According to Deadline, the series made it into the Top 10 Netflix projects. It has a 93% "freshness" rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and 96% from viewers. This is a serious claim, as its competitor “The Last of Us” (a new post-apocalyptic release from HBO) has a viewer rating of just 68%.

After watching the first season of 'Eternaut', I can confidently say it's one of the standout series of 2025. It’s based on the iconic comic of the same name by Héctor Germán Oesterheld, originally published between 1957 and 1959, which tells the story of a small group of survivors in Buenos Aires after a deadly alien invasion.

Like the comic, the thriller directed by Bruno Stagnaro is set in Buenos Aires—not in some distant, abstract future, but right here and now.

It's Christmas, summer, heat. A group of friends gathers to play cards. And then suddenly—snow. In Argentina. In summer. A white shroud falls from the sky, and it all seems strange until Juan (Ricardo Darín) notices: people who are outside simply fall and... don't get up. Is it a virus? An invasion?

There is no connection. No electricity either. Cars won't start. The city is silent. And now Juan needs to make his way through the deadly blizzard to find his wife and daughter. And the snow, as it turns out, is just the beginning.

I would note that the series doesn't splurge on its budget, but that's its charm. A restrained visual without glossy filters, yet the reality is almost tangible. Buenos Aires was transferred to digital format using the Unreal Engine program, which is used to create computer games, and it worked. The atmosphere is oppressive but captivating.

The project is compared to the sensational "The Last of Us," but in reality, there are not so many similarities. There are zombies there, while here the threat is of a completely different nature. In short, it's not "just another end-of-the-world series." It's a story about how everything can collapse—quietly, suddenly, without warning. And trust me: you'll want to watch it to the end.

And those viewers who have already finished watching share their opinions in the comments:
Started watching this late last night and thought I'd watch a few minutes, get bored, and turn it off, but I was up until 6 AM because I needed to know what would happen next. Definitely watch it. Can't wait for season 2.

And the second season, according to the words of the head of Netflix's Latin American division Francisco Ramos, is already in development: We want to challenge ourselves in the second season, just as we challenged ourselves in the first. Earlier, we at zoomboola.com reported about an internet series about a scarecrow that surpassed "Titanic" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" in IMDb ratings.
