Brooke Shields will star in a sitcom based on `The Blue Lagoon`

She will once again don the persona of a heroine stranded on a deserted island.

This time, however, the film will shift from a dramatic genre to a light comedy. The actress who played Emmeline, the girl who survived a shipwreck in 1980, has agreed to star in the sitcom "Almost Paradise". FOX is currently developing the project, and it promises to bring viewers back to the atmosphere of the very film that made Shields famous 45 years ago.

What is the series about?

In "Almost Paradise," the action also takes place on an uninhabited tropical island. The main characters, a married couple, find themselves in a series of funny situations as they try to survive in paradise-like conditions.

According to Deadline, the series is positioned as a mix of "Blue Lagoon" and "Gilligan's Island" (a 1964 comedy about shipwrecked people).

The slogan for "Almost Paradise" is: "An ordinary married couple facing all the usual problems encountered by anyone who has lived on an uninhabited island for decades." The concept clearly sets a comedic tone.

Who Else Will Star in the Project?

Alongside , actor David Spade, widely known for comedies from the '90s and 2000s such as "Senseless" and "The Benchwarmers," may star in the series.

It is noted that David and Brooke are involved in the development of "Almost Paradise": they have attended presentations together and discussed the idea with the producer. However, they have not yet signed contracts for filming. First, the series needs approval from FOX.

Unpleasant Past

By the way, Shields herself previously mentioned in an interview with Indiewire that the original "The Blue Lagoon" was a challenging experience for her. At 14, she had to perform in revealing scenes, and she felt uncomfortable. The actress noted that such a film would probably not be made today because of its content. But it was this role that paved her way to fame, even though the 1991 sequel "Return to the Blue Lagoon" did without her.

"Almost Paradise" is a chance to look at a familiar story from a different perspective. If everything goes well, we can expect a light-hearted series in a tropical setting with familiar faces.

This is especially interesting since Brooke hasn't had any major projects for a long time. Yes, in 2024, a comedy starring her ("Mother of the Bride") was released, but the film didn't particularly appeal to audiences, receiving a modest 4.8 out of 10 on IMDb. Therefore, many are now pinning their hopes on the new film.
Earlier, we at zoomboola.com reported on a new role for actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who will star in his son's film.
