During the 100-year history of the Oscars awards, movie critics have handed in over three thousand of these desired statuettes. It is even more surprising that among famous and talented actresses there are still those that haven’t earned this award yet, and some of them haven’t even attended the ceremony. Keira Knightley was present at the Oscars ceremony two years in a row as a nominee: for her role in «The Imitation Game» with Benedict Cumberbatch, and in «Pride and Prejudice», where she co-starred with Rosamund Pike. Unfortunately, both of those times the award slipper away from her.

Tim Burton’s muse has already been nominated twice for the Oscars, although, with an almost twenty year break: for the role of the humble Englishwoman in «The Wings of the Dove» (1997) and the wife of Colin Firth’s protagonist in «The King’s Speech».

Scarlett Johansson doesn’t only manage to star in Marvel superhero movies like «The Avengers» and «Iron Man 2», but also to take up a more serious mantel in dramas. The actress was nominated four times for the Golden Globes, and every single time, the odds weren’t in her favor.

Among the work of Emily Blunt, the highlight is her role in the mini-series «Gideon’s Daughter», for which the actress received a Golden Globe. In an interview, the actress admitted that she loved experimenting in movies the most, those kind which are not as widely recognized as those featured at the Oscars.

The sex symbol of the end of the previous century, Sharon Stone, was only kept on the edge of her seat once, waiting to hear her name for the nomination for the Best Female Role: it was for her role in «Casino» (1995) where she co-starred with Robert De Niro. Despite her success, Sharon, to this day, has only got eight nominations for the «Golden Raspberry», two of which she won.

For her role in Quentin Tarantino’s iconic movie «Pulp Fiction» (1995), Uma got nominated for Best Female Role. Thereon, none of her projects were noticed by critics, and her latest movie, «The Con Is On», with Tim Roth, has become a box office failure altogether.

Jessica Chastain

One of the most famous movies in Jessica Chastain’s career is probably the action movie «Zero Dark Thirty», telling the story of one of the operations of US special forces tasked with the capture of Osama bin Laden. For her leading role, the actress was nominated for the Oscars, but, she only got a Golden Globe.

Salma Hayek was often spotted as portraying a seductress in comedy dramas and Westerns, such as «Bandidas», where she co-starred with Penelope Cruz. Everything changed after her leading role in «Frida», telling the complicated story of the famous artist’s life: the actress was nominated for the Oscars and more substantial offers from producers.

For quite some time, directors had pegged Amy Adams as the typical nice ginger girl, offering her roles in comedy dramas. Now, the actress makes often appearances in big projects, such as «American Hustle» with Christian Bale, and «Arrival» with Jeremy Renner. It sure seems like Oscars-worth movies are not so far behind.

The star of James Cameron’s «Aliens» was nominated three times for the Oscars at the end of the 80s. Today, Sigourney Weaver is almost 70, but she prefers to content her fans with her work in detectives and fantasy movies and shows.
