Childhood and Family

Sydney was born on February 13, 1996, to screenwriter Kathryn MacQuarrie and actor Kyle Chandler ("Early Edition," "Friday Night Lights"). She has a younger sister named Sawyer.

Due to her father's work, the family moved frequently, living in Chicago and Los Angeles before eventually settling in Dripping Springs, Texas, southwest of Austin.

Sydney graduated from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas.

Despite growing up in a celebrity family, Sydney had a completely normal upbringing. Initially, she had no intention of following in her father's footsteps. "My dad's an actor, and you never want to do what your parents do," she once said. She planned to become a veterinarian but lacked the required science background, so she pivoted to studying creative writing and enrolled in acting classes.

Acting Career

Sydney took her first career steps in 2018, appearing in the TV series "Skam Austin." In August 2020, she was cast in a remake of the horror film "Urban Legend," but the project was canceled in October 2022.

Her big-screen debut came in 2022 with a supporting role in Olivia Wilde's psychological thriller "Don't Worry Darling." She played Violet, the best friend of the main character Alice (Florence Pugh).

Her breakthrough role came in FX's miniseries "Pistol" (2022), where she portrayed Chrissie Hynde, founder of The Pretenders. To prepare for the role, Sydney learned to sing and play guitar. For filming "Pistol," Sydney relocated to London, where all the music featured in the series was recorded live.

In 2024, the actress appeared alongside Colin Farrell in Apple TV+'s mystery drama "Sugar." In May 2023, she was cast in the lead role of Noah Hawley's "Alien: Earth" series for Hulu. Filming wrapped in July 2024, and the show premiered on August 12, 2025.

By the end of 2023, Louis and Sydney had split, with the actor going on to date singer Olivia Rodrigo. Sydney has since preferred to keep her personal life private.
