Childhood and Family

Sofia was born on April 10, 1993, in the resort city of Fort Lauderdale on Florida's eastern coast. The actress's full birth name is Sofia Lauren Daccarett Char.

Sofia's father, José F. Daccarett, is Colombian and moved to the U.S. in his youth, where he met his future wife Laura Char, an American with Colombian roots. The actress has a younger sister named Paulina.

The actress's mother is connected to the Char family, an influential political dynasty in Colombia.

The Carson surname, which brought Sofia to widespread recognition, belonged to her maternal grandmother Lorraine Carson.

By age three, Sofia already knew what she wanted to do with her life. She was obsessed with Disney animated musicals, especially the songs from "Beauty and the Beast." The little girl would often spin around in a yellow dress just like Belle's while singing along to the movie. Even as a child, she couldn't imagine any other destiny than acting.

During childhood, Sofia began vocal training and also attended dance classes. Soon she gained her first stage performance experience. The girl drew inspiration from Cher, Barbra Streisand, and Jennifer Lopez.

Despite this, Sofia wasn't the life of the party as a kid. She read voraciously and later admitted in interviews that she was a "nerd" in school who didn't quite fit in. Many of her acquaintances were surprised when Sofia decided to pursue a career in show business.

After graduating high school, Carson enrolled at the University of California, studying French.
