Early Roles

Painter jumped into professional acting relatively recently – his debut came with the short film "Soup" in 2021.

His first notable project was the fifth season of "The Handmaid's Tale" (2022), where he played border guard Jayden, a Gilead guard who impacted June's story.

"Wednesday"

His breakthrough came in September 2025 – that's when the second part of "Wednesday" season two dropped on Netflix. Owen appeared as a character named Slurp. When he got the script, he had no clue who he'd be playing.
…I was thinking: 'What are we even doing?' I had no idea. My imagination conjured up a drink, and I was terrified I'd be a computer puddle or something like that.
Turns out Slurp was a zombie brought back to life by Pugsley Addams (Isaac Ordonez). Gradually, he regains his human form and remembers his name – Isaac Knight. He's a dangerous telekinetic. What's more, it's revealed that Thing, the Addams family's loyal familiar, is actually his amputated hand. Morticia cut it off when Isaac tried to kill Gomez.

About his role, Painter says:
I felt truly blessed. The role was interesting, complex, and physically demanding. It was a lot of stuff I'd never done before. The role gave me a real sense of possibility. It was like a gift.
The young actor found working with makeup especially fascinating – initially, while he was in zombie form, the work was incredibly intricate.

Owen Painter Now

After "Wednesday's" success, Painter became the focus of intense attention from the film industry and fans. His striking resemblance to young Johnny Depp, especially from Burton's "Edward Scissorhands" and "Sleepy Hollow," has sparked rumors that he could become the director's new favorite actor.
