"The Passion of the Christ" Sequel Recasts Jesus

Mel Gibson's biblical epic was released in 2004 and, with a budget of 30 million dollars, grossed over 600 million at the box office. Nevertheless, a sequel is only happening now.

News recently broke that the cult classic would be getting a sequel. What's more, Jim Caviezel had already started preparing for his role. To get into character, the actor fasted, prayed daily, and took communion. But according to Page Six, all that effort was for nothing.

The filmmakers decided they need a new actor for the role of Jesus. De-aging the 57-year-old would be too expensive and complicated, especially since the film picks up right after the events of the first one. Interestingly, himself had previously claimed he'd found a way to solve this problem. The zoomboola.com editorial team reminds readers that filming of "The Passion of the Christ" sequel is set to begin this month in Rome, though the schedule may shift. The film is planned as a two-part release. The first part hits theaters in March 2027, with the second following 40 days later.
