Film of the Day: "The Devil Wears Prada" — When Office Work Becomes Glossy Hell

Classic fashion cinema worth rewatching before the sequel.

"The Devil Wears Prada" is a brilliant 2006 comedy-drama directed by David Frankel. It's literally soaked in fashion and glamour.

But what really hooks you is something else entirely — a sharp, witty, ironic story about what happens when you first witness how real power actually works.

At the center of the plot is Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a naive small-town girl who lands a job working for the tyrannical editor of New York fashion magazine "Runway," finding herself at the mercy of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep).

And suddenly it's all sky-high heels, a million tasks at once, and the question: what are you putting yourself through all this for?

Miranda's character can be called one of the best in cinema. According to "Wikipedia," this was the only film where Streep worked using the Stanislavski method and never broke character between takes.

This approach earned her Oscar and Screen Actors Guild nominations for Best Actress, plus audience love that's lasted decades.

The film itself also received pretty solid reviews from critics: 7.0 on IMDb, 75% from critics and 76% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

But what's way more important is its status. Because "The Devil Wears Prada" has long become a cultural touchstone. People quote it, rewatch it, compare toxic office jobs to it, and it still inspires to this day.

Now here's the big news. They started filming the sequel in July 2025. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast features all the same stars: Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, Tucci. Miranda still runs "Runway" — but now she has to fight for glossy magazine survival in the digital age.

And her former assistant Emily is now on the other side of the fence: she works for a luxury conglomerate that dictates the advertising market rules.

So in the next installment, the stakes will be even higher. While we wait for part two to drop, it's the perfect time to revisit the first one. Earlier on zoomboola.com, we told you about "K-PAX" — one of the most human films about aliens ever made.
