3 New Movies and Shows Coming August 19th: Peacemaker's Return and a New Pixar Animation

What to choose for viewing at the end of summer? Three major premieres at once.

This week brings a new animated film from the legendary Pixar studio, a continuation of "Peacemaker" starring John Cena, and a fresh animated series from the creators of "BoJack Horseman".

"Elio"

Pixar's diving back into sci-fi territory. Eleven-year-old dreamer Elio accidentally finds himself at the center of galactic diplomacy — he's mistaken for Earth's official ambassador. "Peacemaker" (Season 2)

This time around, Peacemaker gets a deadly enemy — Rick Flag Sr., who's out for revenge over his son's death. Expect even more dark humor, absurd situations, and brutal fights.

The second season will serve as a soft reboot of the series.

"Long Story Short"

Premiere: August 22, Netflix

Starring (voice cast): Dave Franco, Lisa Edelstein, Ben Feldman

The creators of "BoJack Horseman" are back with a new adult animated comedy. The story centers on a brother, sister, and another brother, whose relationships we'll see across different periods of their lives — from childhood to adulthood. There'll be fights, reconciliations, and plenty of irony.

The creators describe the project as "a comedy for anyone who's ever hated their family." Given ShadowMachine studio's signature style, expect smart humor with a touch of absurdity.

It's shaping up to be a packed week: Pixar delivers cosmic sci-fi for the whole family, HBO Max brings back superhero mayhem with John Cena, and Netflix responds with adult animation from genre masters.
