Luke Evans and Noomi Rapace will star in an action movie about Chechnya
updated
Will they come to Russia for this?
Hollywood stars will find themselves in Chechnya. At least, on screen. Luke Evans and Noomi Rapace have signed on to star in the action-thriller Traction, set in the mountainous republic during one of the Chechen wars. The film will be written and directed by French filmmaker Lorraine Darrow.
In the plot, a former American soldier (Rapace) leads a humanitarian mission in war-torn Chechnya. Together with her friend Magomed, she accidentally shelters a young rebel, Larisa, who is hiding a mysterious package. They are joined by a cynical American war correspondent (Evans), a school teacher, and her wounded student. Together, this group must escape the dangerous terrain, avoiding encounters with both Russian troops and guerrillas.
However, the filmmakers will not travel to Chechnya. They plan to shoot the beauty of the mountainous republic in Spain. As reported by Variety, production will begin in August 2025.
