And this film, based on Thomas Harris's novel "Red Dragon," remains criminally underrated to this day, even though it has everything we love about great thrillers: a methodical detective, an almost untouchable killer, an unsettling atmosphere, and tension that'll freeze your blood.

To understand how this new killer thinks, Will has to turn to the past — to psychiatrist Lecktor (Brian Cox), whom he previously arrested.
Their scenes together — no hysterics, no special effects, but the tension is like a taut wire ready to snap. Everything here works on pure sensation: how light falls across a face, how a voice sounds, how a gaze lingers.
This is a film with more psychological horror than blood. And the '80s score creates a unique feeling: like you're inside someone else's head.
Though the film didn't make money when it first came out, it's now considered a cult classic. It still holds strong ratings from critics and audiences. On IMDb, the movie scores 7.2 out of 10, while Rotten Tomatoes gives it 94% "fresh."
