7 Most Anticipated Movies of July 2025 — Rihanna as a Smurf, Dinosaurs and Superheroes

Summer is in full swing, which means it's time to make movie plans for the coming month. July has prepared plenty of major premieres.

We've got dinosaurs, superheroes, and '90s horror throwbacks. Plus the return of beloved comedy characters, new chapters in legendary franchises, and even Smurfs — but with Rihanna's voice.

I've rounded up the most anticipated releases based on buzz levels, online interest, and pure curiosity. This is based on research from Screen Rant in collaboration with Diesel Labs.

"Jurassic World: Rebirth"

Release: July 2

July's most talked-about movie (100% online attention) and for good reason. Five years have passed since "Dominion." Humanity seems to be breathing easy again — the dinosaurs that escaped into our world have died out. But on distant islands, there are still those whose DNA could save millions... and naturally become the source of a new nightmare.

At the center — a team of hunters and a tourist family who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Expect action, massive set pieces, Scarlett Johansson in the lead, and of course... lots of dinosaurs!

"The Fantastic Four: First Steps"

Release: July 25

Marvel drops the 37th film in their universe and, judging by the casting, we're in for something special.

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach play the iconic foursome in a retro-futuristic '60s world. All this unfolds against the backdrop of approaching Galactus (who wants to destroy the planet) and the appearance of his herald — the Silver Surfer.

Ambitious, gorgeous, and hopefully not like previous attempts to bring this story to screen.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer"

Release: July 18

A remake and sequel rolled into one: five friends hit someone with their car, cover up the crime... and a year later get an anonymous reminder.

Hook in hand, black raincoat — everything's in place. Plus cameos from the 1997 version's heroes. Nostalgia and fresh blood in one package.

"Happy Gilmore 2"

Release: July 25

The comedy sequel nobody expected but everybody wanted once it was announced. Adam Sandler returns as the clumsy golfer who can't seem to get out of his own way.

Expect edgy humor, familiar faces making comebacks, and fresh characters — including Bad Bunny and Sandler's own daughters. Here's hoping the jokes hit as hard as his golf swings.

"Superman"

Release: July 11

James Gunn's hitting the reset button — and this is step one toward DC's new cinematic universe. David Corenswet steps into the cape as the Man of Steel.

The story promises to be classic Superman: a young man from Krypton, raised on Earth, searching for his place between two worlds. Hope, strength, and soaring flights — everything we love about this hero.

"The Old Guard 2"

Release: July 2

The first movie was solid if uneven. The sequel promises more drama, a powerful new antagonist, and the return of a "missing" hero.

Netflix knows how to deliver high-octane fantasy, especially when Charlize Theron's on screen — so we're ready.

"Smurfs"

Release: July 18

Feel-good animation for the whole family. Smurfette (voiced by Rihanna!) leads a rescue mission to save Papa Smurf from Gargamel's clutches.

It'll be funny, colorful, and musical. Perfect excuse to hit the theater with the whole family.

This new month proves there's good reason to check out theaters (or at least your laptop screen) more often. There's action, laughs, scares, and a touch of childhood nostalgia thrown in. Best of all — plenty of reasons to debate which characters made the biggest impression. Earlier on zoomboola.com, we told you about five movies that'll definitely make you never want to be a cowboy.
