Childhood

Tom Holland was born on June 1, 1996, in the Kingston upon Thames area on the southern outskirts of London. Theatre Career

In 2006, Tom was part of the YMCA street dance group. The kids participated in a regional contest at the Royal Ballet School in Richmond Park. A 10-year-old boy skillfully dancing hip-hop was noticed by an assistant to the famous choreographer Peter Darling and was invited to the casting of the play "Billy Elliot", the plot of which revolves around a boy named Billy trying to make it in the world of ballet.

On a rainy Sunday morning, Tom and his parents arrived at the theatre. When Dominic and Nicole saw a long line of boys dressed in leotards, they realized their son had no chance, as Tom had never professionally danced and hadn't even attended drama club. However, director Stephen Daldry noticed the boy's potential and selected him for further auditions. When the choreographers expressed their outrage that Tom couldn't dance at all, Daldry responded, "Then teach him!"

After two years of training and eight more auditions, Holland was finally accepted into the troupe. He made his debut in the theatre musical "Billy Elliot" in the role of Michael. Three months later, on September 8, 2008, he first took the stage in the leading role. In this role, Tom performed in 180 shows.

Immediately after his debut as Billy, the young dancer first appeared on television screens. He gave his first interview for FIVE channel, later he was a guest on ITV1, as well as on the Myleene Klass Show.

On March 8, 2010, to mark the fifth anniversary of the musical, four actors who had ever played Billy, including Tom Holland, were invited to meet with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Breakthrough: Spider-Man

In July 2017, the long-awaited reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, starring Tom Holland, was released. In preparation for the role, the actor diligently revisited all the superhero films featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. "It's time to see a teenager in action. We've already seen a billionaire, a scientist, and a soldier," he told the press before the movie premiere, hinting that his character's actions are age-related. "My main difference from other Marvel superheroes is my youth and innocence." The main villain of the film is Vulture (Michael Keaton), and Aunt May is played by the sex symbol of the '90s, Marisa Tomei.

Holland admitted that the scene of falling out of a helicopter in "Uncharted" was the most challenging of all his on-set experiences. This moment was filmed over five weeks. Tom was hanging 30 meters high, holding onto a rotating box simulating a helicopter, and at some point, he fell down. "I was very scared, but the scene turned out to be authentic!" Tom shared.

Tom Holland's Personal Life

Tom met the charming blonde Ellie Lotherington at the BRIT School. The couple preferred to keep their relationship private; in all interviews, Holland merely hinted that he had a best friend, and it was a girl. The couple first caught the eye of photographers while on vacation together, after which Tom stopped hiding Ellie and often appeared with her at parties, clubs, and movie premieres.

However, in the fall of 2018, photos were published of Tom hugging Zendaya, his co-star from the film "Spider-Man: Homecoming". Insiders claimed that the couple carefully concealed their romantic relationship, but the actors themselves denied the rumors.

But the deeper their feelings got, the more difficult it was to hide them. Eventually, the couple opened up to the world. Tom admitted that although he is naturally sincere, he believes that personal life should remain personal, and both of them did not want to flaunt their romance.

In early 2022, Zendaya and Tom bought a mansion in London, thus celebrating their decision to move in together. The choice of house was due to its proximity to Tom's parents' house - he always dreamed of living near them and places from his childhood.

Tom Holland Now

The mini-series "The Crowded Room", starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, was released on June 9, 2023. The story is inspired by the novel "The Minds of Billy Milligan", and Tom plays a young man with multiple personality disorder. His character is suspected of a crime, and a doctor, played by Amanda, helps him uncover the truth.

Holland not only starred in the series but also co-produced it. Since he had to transform into a mentally unstable person, something he hadn't done before, at least not on such a scale, and because of his producing responsibilities, he was so exhausted after the series that he decided to take a year-long break from his career.
Why Tom Holland Was Scared of His Crowded Room Role
Work on the next installment of "Spider-Man" was supposed to start in 2023, but due to a strike by the Writers Guild of America, it has been postponed to 2024.
